UBI has so many benefits for society that people don't even consider when talking about it. How many kids are dumped in play schools & such like 'cos both their parents are stuck at work every day? With UBI we can get back to one parent staying at home & bringing the kids up properly like we always used to, rather than the new trend of dumping them in play schools where only the kids who stamp their feet & scream the loudest get the attention. It's a huge reason for the bunch of entilted brats you see in the 18-25 age range right now. The same applies at the other end of the scale, no more dumping elderly relatives into care homes 'cos with UBI a family member can stay at home & look after them. It helps to keep families strong & rebuild communities like most of us were lucky enough to grow-up in before we were all forced to work ourselves into the ground & let 'others' care for our young/old. Further reflection on your post DC, O think that you've drawn attention to two things that have always annoyed me....this situation whereby two people have a baby and almost immediately have to put them in a nursery ( I almost said " put them in care"....if you think about it, it's not far off " putting them in care")....if the state made it compulsory to do so , we'd be up in arms, in a way it is compulsory/ forced on people.Similarly, looking after the elderly. Something that "we" have all put up with....the disgraceful rewards that footballers receive for basically playing a game....it may be an important game, it may be a business in which the market prevails...but it is a skewed market in which organisations such as Sky pull the strings and the ordinary supporter pays the price ( Similarly, the entertainment industry, subsidised by the BBC)...it's a shame that following this disaster some values don't change.

Stear Calmer is the new male, pale, stale hope for the Labour Party.

Certainly a clearer mandate than the right wing knitting circle of Tring who elected Bozo and therefore Cummings the inept pensioner killer.

Starmer was the born son of a toolmaker in rough arse Southwark, didn't have everything on a plate for him like Bozo the pensioner killer that the right wing loons on here adore.

Certainly a clearer mandate than the right wing knitting circle of Tring who elected Bozo and therefore Cummings the inept pensioner killer. How come the biggest political movement in Europe got trounced barely four months ago? The UK election map had more blue than Pornhub- and when exactly did Tring up sticks and relocate to Cornwall, Cumbria, Northumberland or mid Wales? You still don't get it do you- it wasn't just the Women's Institute or tweed brigade who voted Conservative, it was blue collar folk, and not just white, from the industrial north who saw Boris as a better leader than Red Jez. Says it all. On a side note, how come 'gammon' suddenly become 'pensioners' again when there are political points at stake?

It'll be interesting to see how Starmer dumps Corbyn's policies. As I see it he has two choices. Obviously he changes the Shadow Cabinet but how many Corbynites get to stay? RBL, Butler, Gwynne, Abbott? Probably none but that's fine. A new broom excuse will do for now. See ya' Suemas. Changing the make up of the NEC might be a little trickier but it'll come.
So after many of the Corbynite's are removed does he come in hard and set out a "new vision" while still surfing the wave of a big mandate? Dismaying many momentum members who have just voted for him because he promised to nationalise the post office. Or, does he play the long game? Many changes now but some of the old guard remain. Those who are naturally on their way out over the next couple of years or who's positions are up for grabs in the future can stay. Starmer knows they can be phased out later.
His first (virtual?) conference speech promises a beginning of a great Labour future etc, etc. But slowly and surely the talk of borrowing £500 billion for a 'People's Bank' will become a distant whisper. Harder Left members become vocal at the lack of 'direction'. When challenged about his leadership campaign pledges his next conference speech will say something non-committal like 'all options are still on the table'. Over the next couple of years the momentum moans and groans are passed off by Starmerites as a narrow minority in a broad church.
Eventually, many months before Keir's first manifesto hits the printing presses talk about 'life after Brexit' and recovering from the Corona Virus economic hit will be ramped up to prepare for a completely different set of General Election promises.
Is it going to be Tony Starmer or Keir Blair?

Good luck to him - he has a massive and important job to do. And he does- the country needs a credible opposition, something that Jeremy Corbyn's Labour failed to deliver. He was even shitting himself over agreeing to an election.

Labour will be in the political shadows for decades regardless who they chose as their new leader, I know Starmer wasn't the 1st choice of the big trade unions, I wonder if he'll try to bring in some Labour/conservative hybrid political stance like Tony Bliar did? For me hes just another beige option. Now onto the Liberals can anyone second guess who they'll vote in as their next leader to fight for third place in future elections? Whoever it is you can bet no-one will have heard of him/her. Gouranga.

There is no mandate for post corona. If the boneheads and lightweights currently in Government continue to perform as inadequately as they have during the crisis and as their complete lies regarding Brexit unravel it will be interesting Political times.
The only unknown is if Starmer is up to the job, he wont have to be up to much to beat these morons though.

Ably assisted by a compliant right wing media. He was by no means perfect, made a lot of errors, had poor advice and was let down by traitors in his own party and ultimately he probably wasn't quite up to it but he is continually been proven to be right and in post corona, his vision of society will be proven to be right again. One thing I know is that one Jeremy Corbyn is worth a million privileged Bullingdon cunt rags like Johnson.

Funny enough so does the provo's In Ireland But enough of the past I'm still interested in what Starmer knew about the child abuse gangs In Northern England whilst he was DPP And if he knew nothing is he going to remove those Labour councillors that failed to protect children or those who chose not to act from the party

He should be given a fair chance. I'm not impressed myself , mainly by his ( out of touch) Brexit stance nor his dour demeanour and but sometimes " cometh the hour , cometh the man"...He has an enormous task but at least he has an opportunity to break from Labour's ineffective recent past. Perhaps the current global difficulty could actually play into his hands, any government would be criticised in this situation. It's a bit disingenuous to try to promote his working class past....I think that his father was just a toolmaker, but owned a toolmakers ' factory and like many politicians he enjoyed a relatively privileged upbringing.
