Comment from Millwall forum today on Woods "Opinion on him is divided on here with some thinking he is the ‘ginger Pirlo’ and others thinking that he is one of Snow White’s friends. His form this season for us is also a factor. If he really can lead the midfield and hit some telling passes which lead to goals then signing him could be a foregone conclusion. If he plays too deep, gets caught with the ball and plays like an extra defender then he could be on his bike in June. There is also the thought about the shedload he gets each week with his present contract. I am not sure we could pay a fortune to keep him." There is some debate about him dropping too deep (most think this is Rowett's doing) and being more effective further up the pitch. They don't seem too averse to him though. I like Pirlo/Snow White ref! Better than we currently have, doesn't seem to have an attitude problem elsewhere. 🤷♂️ More telling than not.

I like Pirlo/Snow White ref! Same old story isn’t it - gets caught with the ball. I desperately wanted him to do well because he’s talented and just the kind of midfielder I enjoy watching, but he’s just too ponderous and weak for modern football.

So, as far as his contract finishing, and getting his wages off the books, we are not out of the Woods yet then

londonnewsonline.co.uk/stoke-city-midfielder-ryan-woods-gives-answer-on-whether-a-third-loan-spell-at-millwall-looks-a-possibility/Ryan Woods has had two loan spells at Millwall – but doesn’t expect that to be an option again in the summer. “I’ve been a footballer long enough to know that football changes every day,” he told the South London Press. “But I think a loan [to Millwall] would be very difficult because I will be in the last year of my contract. “If I’m not going to play for Stoke next season then a permanent move is better for everyone. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/ryan-woods-stoke-millwall-transfer-5359834"Again, he’s under contract at Stoke for next season. Unless there’s clarity either way I think we have to appreciate he might not be here next year. Therefore I have to make one or two decisions with the team for the last few games. “But alternatively if I think Woodsy’s going to help us win the game as he has done so often then I’ll start him. “There’s nothing there. He’s a great lad. It’s unfortunate because he’s committed to us for the time but of course I have to have to have a slightly more balanced view and look at the group in general.”

Let's hope the summer sees us rid of him once and for all.

I’m increasingly looking at these loan players and wondering two things.
1. Do we have better already at the club? 2. When we move them on, how confident are we that the club will actually bring in better players?
So, in the case of Woods, is he worse than Thompson, Cousins, Allen, or Mikel? I genuinely don’t think he is.

They paid 750k for George Evans in January, they can get to fuck pleading poverty with us all the time. £1.5m is what it would take to secure him for FFP purposes, I'm not buying they can't afford him one bit.

It might not even be that much with the write off we did? I'd forgotten about that. At least from his interview it does sound like he'll be off permanently in the summer so we should be confident of fetching whatever it is we need for him. Hopefully one of many that are in their last year.

Yeah and it depends on what the deal is with what we did there but if we can shift some of them even for free and still pay half their wages, it's not ideal but it's still a smaller loss. You'd hope though we could do better than that with a few of them.

It might not even be that much with the write off we did? FFP doesn’t matter in the last year of a contract, we incur the accounting charge in any case. Fir all the players entering the last year of their contract, FFP is not the issue, it’s how much can we get. In Woods’ case, he will be looking to move and secure a contract for more than one season. More about him than Millwall

If not then fair game but we seem to accepting in releasing / loaning them for remaining 12 months.
