I welcome the news on this loan.
It strikes me as decisive management, striking while the iron is hot. We have no idea how football finances are going to pan out with this pandemic and fears of a second wave in the winter. Best to reduce costs while we can and avoid a major depreciation of an asset by selling at less than book value (assuming the player's value is straight line depreciated).
It also sends a message to everyone that the club means business and is cracking on with reducing the squad size.

You might want to save that post as a template, because I get the feeling you'll be saying this a lot this transfer window, which I think is the ultimate point here. We should be able to get a decent fee for one of the better midfielders in this league. The fact we can’t is shocking. from who Bayern? which clubs have got £2m & can pay £30k a week? Fulham, Bournemouth,Norwich,Watford, Forest(not sure re the wages), Cardiff maybe & maybe Swansea & how many of those clubs would want him? I can't see any of those wanting him I'd imagine quite a few champ clubs would want him but none that can afford him

So one sided. What about mentioning the good signings! Like Berahino and Wimmer😂😂😂 I was thinking more of Imbula. Signed for 18M. Given away for free. At least we're scaling down our costs appropriately... 😂😂 so many shite signings to choose from. #welldonescholes

He's no chance of getting anywhere near that side Fulham can be a soft touch but play attractive forward thinking passing football He's not as good as what they have Easily the least likely side in the division who'd want him

Essentially when you look at the deal as a whole, our chaotic transfer approach has seen us pay Brentford 6M to 'loan' Ryan Woods to us for 18 months worth of football (39 games in total) before releasing him to Millwall for free, with us taking the financial risk on collateral. In what other world would this CEO survive even one of these types of deals? With Etebo and NDiaye, this is now three. That's being kind to the total waste of skin-manager who signed him.

The people bemoaning the fact that this is a loan and not a sale need to realise that: 1) Loan moves these days usually involve a significant fee 2) If we’d sold him for anything less than a third of what we paid for him (ie £2.2 million) it would be recorded as a loss on our balance sheet for FFP, which we can’t afford to do. The bad business was signing him in the first place, not loaning him out now. But as next season is the last of his contract, surely we will still take that charge in the accounts for 2020/21. In this case I am not sure FFP matters as we are not avoiding a faster write down. This is spot on. As Woods is in the last year of his contract the £2.2 m remaining will be charged as amortisation/depreciation anyway. If we had been able to generate a fee (which may have been a little more than a loAn fee), then we would have negated some of the amortisation charge.

Woods isn’t an expensive signing.
He’s in his final year of the contract.
It’s awful business.

We would need to sell woods for £2.18M not to incur a loss he is probably on high wages so hard to shift

Best all around, and as has been stated there's no-one in the market for him with what we require as a fee. Which leads me to believe that he has quite a lengthy contract with us, and is probably not due to leave until 22/23. Otherwise we could have sold him for around 2M to someone. You would have to believe we paid quite a large sum for this player and as a result offered him a similarly large lucrative contract. It wouldn't make sense to loan him out if he's gone in June 21.

Don't know why the thread has been joined to the Woods thread it was referring to all loans not just Woods. Just because the link highlights Woods name it wasn't actually about him. I found the explanation quite interesting and thought it deserved it's own thread which is why I didn't post it here. Whether anyone else found it interesting is another thing.

Helping us as well to be fair and at least will be one off the books at the end of the loan. Why do you find this acceptable? If we only do loans and frees then I will apologise to Scholes. But this wreaks of lazy arsedness. Lazy as in we can't force a club to buy him? 'Wreaks' ( I think you mean Reeks) of an agenda to me...another one. By acceptable see best and most sensible option in the current circumstances

Mark Stein and Oxford didn’t work out. He came to us and became the Messiah. Shit happens, we move on. And lets not forget we swapped yes swapped Keith for Scott for Mike Sheron form Norwich's reserves. We had to pay quite a bit on top...think was £275.000 and add ons Got a bit lucky with that one as Martin O'Neill was a huge Keith Scott fan from their Wycombe days and Sheron wanted out and was still commuting, so he was offered to us .
