It's as if you can only pick 18 players and the manager is picking a settled 18. Weird How many of his signings are part of that settled 18
Weird indeed.

Can we not just enjoy this mini revival we're on?
That's not to say we should bury our heads in the sand. There are plenty of question marks over recruitment. And still a big question mark over the managers head.
But let's just temporarily put that to one side and focus on the recent turnaround in form. We've got 2 more massive games coming up. Let's ride the feel good factor and focus on getting points on the board.

All that aside he should be having more of an impact than he is shouldn't he? I know barely anything about him as a player but he's played a lot of games at this level and above. Was he just incredibly lucky to be dragged along for a ride with Huddersfield or has he not turned up for us yet? Probably. But he should never have played for us imo. He just wasn’t needed. He has looked really wank though which is surprising. But they must have had good reason to sell him? Being fair, in Huddersfields current financial predicament, they couldn't really afford to turn down our offer, they need the cash.

I don't see how it was pointless, we needed a right back. But we don't seem to have signed one.

I don't see how it was pointless, we needed a right back. Not as much as we needed a proper LB not an OAP or a failed winger, we had two RB's when we signed Smith we had no LB's at all.

Tommy Smith is an OK player, it was always going to be hard for him to justify his value when you put it in the context of our summer and squad. We already had Tom Edwards who is also perfectly ok for what we need.
The thought that spending 4m on Tommy Smith to be the difference between gaining promotion and not getting promotion is as ridiculous now as it was in the summer.
It's impossible to now question this transfer without looking what happened on the other wing. It was a bad decision not only by Jones but also by the club and is just another symptom of how poorly we are run. Most disappointingly it won't stop until we either stop mindlessly backing managers or install a DoF.

We didn't expect Butland, Indi or Ndaiye and possibly Etebo to be here after window which would have meant Davies would be on then bench along with 3 of his other signings. We've got too many players to keep people happy currently.

So we replaced players we hadn't sold and replaced them with absolute dross , all I can say it's a f*cking good job we didn't sell three of those four we would have been well and truly f*cked.

I think some of you need to get real.
Many talk as though we have now found a basic 11/12 to move forward with ,none of those players will ever get injured or lose form sufficiently to warrant them being replaced in the starting 11.
Of course we need a decent size squad and some in such a squad will not get in the 11 and subs bench and will therefore seem to have disappeared but if we suddenly get an injury crisis you will see them again.
After all we didn't need Carter-Vickers - until Shawcross was injured and clearly out for some time.

I think many are worried about the quality of the alternatives, he has stumbled on a decent starting 11 the depth of the squad is poor and he signed most of them.

Some of them have been unlucky such as Duffy where if Ndiaye and Etebo had gone he would be starting and he's good enough imo. Keeping these two could be difficult in January and not expecting either to be here next season. Similar with Davies with Butland not going but his current situation is bizarre. The rest would be on the bench to bolster the squad which is what Jones has admitted already, with exception Powell who hasn't be fit to play.

I don't think it was a pointless signing, as Bauer was always going to leave and on paper he was a pretty good pickup. I don't personally think he's been anywhere near as bad as some on here do. It was also said Edwards wouldn't have a chance in the first team with Smith here which has been borne out to be complete bollocks.
If Edwards goes down with an injury, I think he's more than up to the task.

Duffy is a loan player who Nathan obviously doesn't rate, Davies was brought in apparently as a replacement for Jack who we hadn't sold, he is now behind Fed and Butland the rest are not good enough to be called upon as back up, Powell is a walking sick note but most of us knew that when Jones signed him and it has panned out thus, the situation at LB is fecking bizzare not signing a decent able LB was mental after selling Pieters for peanuts. Cousins is apparently a footballer that Nathan rates

We didn't we had one, Bauer was never going to play he can't go anything particularly well. It was a far from pointless signing. now whether he was the right right back to go for is a different argument. Bauer is way better than Smith. We had two right backs and didn’t need another one. Bauer was on the bench Saturday as Celtic smashed the mighty Ross County 6-0. Looks like Lennon has rumbled him already. After his first game Celtic fans posted “ sign him up”. A few games later on the bench, think there is a trend somehow with Bauer, he’s really not very good.

It's only October. We'll probably need him through the season at some point.
Why are we writing off a player after 2 months of the season? Just calm down and accept that a season is longer than 2 months.

Carps he was slaughtered on here I don't recall his mates sticking up for him then. Plus what is the none signing of a LB got to do with anything. 4milllion is a piss in the ocean let's not go overboard on that figure when a striker who cost 3 times that contributed 100 % fuck all.

People expect new signings to come in and have an instant impact and enhance the team considerably. While that can happen sometimes, oftimes it doesnt. Some players just need time to settle, and furthermore ours hasnt been a good team to settle into, especially with a manager who hasnt exactly been sure what he wants to do. That said, I dont think he,s a good signing tobegin with. That was a very long winded way of getting to a point.

He should be a step up from Edwards (who I thought would be shifted out to lb after the signing), but his performances have been very poor. He should improve throughout the season however and if Edwards does get injured with the other 3 remaining fit, I feel Smith would grow back into the role.
