I’d love to know who’s stumping up the cash for that. It will be Derby or their owners who are stumping up the cash. Who else would it be? It is very unlikely they will have had insurance to cover them for losing an appeal which they really had no chance of winning under UK employment law. You don't have to be much of a legal expert to see that Keogh was treated far less fairly than the other participants in the infamous night out.

Yes I know but Derby are essentially ownerless at the moment aren’t they? They were unable to pay their players in December, so how are they going to pay a £2 million compensation bill?

Apparently they’re under a transfer embargo now until the wages are paid

All the more reason not to end up contesting legal disputes you aren't going to win. No doubt if the current takeover fails, someone else will see their current difficulties as a buying opportunity - that's how these things seem to work.

Derby fans were creaming themselves and proclaimed Mel was a genius when they got one over the EFL 6 months ago.
I hope they go under.

But in the meantime, on the basis that Derby County do not currently have the resources to even fulfil their obligations to pay their players, who’s giving Keough his £2 million?

Possibly they may end up selling some assets (players?) if a takeover is not finalised in time. However, legal disputes tend to take some time (one reason why they are appealing against the judgement) so it could be months yet before they HAVE to find the cash to pay Keogh.

Absolutely right that they pay out. They were all idiots but Keogh at least wasn’t actually driving. He didn’t get behind the wheel of a car and commit the crime of drunk driving while the other two did and got a fine and community service (from the club - they also got a 2 year driving ban in court).
Discrimination towards him for being older and more expendable in their view. You can’t rip someone’s contract up and not do the same to 2 others who committed worse offences just because they’re younger and more valuable to you as a business.

Quite right too, I don't approve of what he did but you can't just ignore due process and sack someone despite what people call for on here every time McClean farts. I said it at the time Lionel Hutz would get him a pay day so clear was it that Derby had clearly discriminated against him
