We are in the thick of a run of two games every week and the fantastic lad with whom the manager had no problems, who he thinks is in the top 5 African midfielders and was looking forward to welcoming back to the fold (even going so far as to give him a squad number), has not been seen or heard from since he got back from the ACON.

Quite clearly, no matter what Nathe wants, the guy as no intention of playing for Stoke again

Will make a deadline loan to a European club, probably Turkish, with no obligation to buy.
I’d love him to give us his all until at least January but that’s not going to happen.
It’s a shame really.

We should assume that he's still in the bomb squad, although the alternative to that is that he is patiently waiting for a new chance or opportunity. For the few players at Stoke whose future remains undecided as far as we know, such as Wimmer and Imbula, it must be the equivalent of the fat boy who waits and is always picked last for a team amongst kids, or at school.
Bauer has gone and Bojan and Berahino, but these guys are left on the beach.

Imbula and Wimmer disgust me, they are everything that is wrong with the game. Both modern day Winston Bogarde’s happy to do the bare minimum to collect their wages and no integrity, internal drive or pride to think about properly earning their obscene amounts.

With BMI and Badou back in the fold, the squad does look very large.
Are we pencilling him in as a regular?

Can see Lindsay spending a bit of time out of the side. Will be interesting to see how motivated Badou is. A fully motivated Badou would improve our midfield tenfold, and dare I whisper it, make the diamond a hell of a lot more viable.

Jezza's paraphrasing of a small part of Jonsey's upbeat talk that, like a lot of it, is still to be delivered as part of his walk.
Believe it when I see it (him in a Stoke shirt).

I am really glad Bruno is back, less so about Badou but I appreciate he is good player, but he said wanted to trim the squad. He said he wanted no more than 20 and now he's bringing some back when it's already over 20. And he brought in 11 and put, at least Bruno, in the bomb squad in the first place. It seems a bonkers way of doing things.

Query whether after all he's said about players that want to be here and are proud to play for the club, we should be bringing one of the worst back to save his diamond? He's a good player don't get me wrong but I'm not sure what messages this sending. I feel like we've been down this road before...

The continuation of the diamond is an open question. But if it is still to be the primary formation, interesting if Ndiaye is seen as a holder of one of the middle 2.
You'd think he was more of an energetic player who'd be competiton for Clucas, Etebo and Allen?
And BMI would make 5 centre-halves who'll all expect to play to go with the four number 10s.
Smith Edwards Batth Collins Lindsay BMI CCV McClean Ward
Cousins Woods Allen Clucas Etebo Ndiaye Powell Ince Duffy Verliden
Vokes Hogan Gregory Campbell

Yep it’s very mixed messages, and given the poor form could be seen as an act of a desperate man, possibly unsure of the best route forward.

As if by magic, the shopkeeper appears..... (one for the oldies)
That Sentinel piece arrived just in time to answer my question. So no other club wants Badou and Bruno on terms we are happy with, so they stay.
Bruno is better than Lindsay, Badou is so much better than Cousins it is not even funny. It does expand the squad, but increases its quality no end.
If both get their heads down and commit to the cause, I'd have both in my best XI right now. We've forgiven far worse sinners against the club before, and probably will again in the future.
Etebo and Badou together in our midfield may stop this coach and horses driving through the middle of the team each game.

If he had come back and immediately gone into the squad then it would make a bit more sense to me but we seem like we are a last resort? Maybe he will prove us wrong but if his heart isn't it and we're bringing back a player that doesn't want to be here then I'll be disapointed. Especially when we have a load of midfielders anyway and yes he can make the diamond work but in forcing everything to make that work means players who have come here with better intentions that would play in a different system are going to lose out. It all very much feels like a case of deja vu.

Jones needs to work out his best XI from that little lot, for league games, and stick to it, bar injuries and monumental loss of form. On ability and experience, I find it tempting to include Bruno and Badou in mine (mind and body willing, of course). Butland; Smith, Collins, Martins Indi, Ward; Badou, Etebo; Duffy, Powell, Ince; Gregory. Although ask me tomorrow, and that could all change!

NDiaye at the base of the diamond for me. When fit, Powell at the tip with Clucas and Etebo in the centre
