Bless him. He had his moments but he always seemed to love the club. Good to see him doing well even though it was madness to bomb him out without a better replacement.

This is my own personal impression of Erik Pieters: My mom had been ill for some time and was in a nursing home. Me, my wife and kids were at the haidresser Saturday 12 April 2014. I live just outside Oslo/Norway and it was raining slightly this day. I will never forget that. While we were at the hairdresser the nursing home called me and I was informed that they had problems communicating with my mom, but that it wasn't immediately critical. It still made me alarmed and I drove to the nursing home. I got a new call from the nursing home just as I parked the car, and they told me that my mom was now unconcious and that I better come immediately. I was lucky so I was in her room just a couple of minutes afterwards. To cut a story short: I called my sister my sister and we were both there when my mom died at approximately 1:30 PM. My wife drove me back home and I was sitting there in a blurry haze of emotions. Not knowing what to do I found a stream on the internet of Stoke playing home against Newcastle. In my rather upset state I suddenly saw a cross (or was it a shot?) from Erik Pieters go straight into the net behind the Newcastle keeper. That brought me a smile and a little spark of light that day. I'm not superstitious in any way but that made me smile a little. I don't look upon it as a divine intervention, but as a little ray of consolation that day. Because of that I will always remember Erik Pieters fondly. And from a footballing perspective I would have loved to have him in our team now.

He never put a cross in like that everđ€ He put lots of crosses in like that but our shit forwards never got on the end of any of them. Erik pieters should still be at stoke city. Getting shut of him when we had zero chance of getting anyone better is the current managers most stupid decision to date. Next you'll be telling us he was good at shooting because he scored 2 crackers last season. Good defender, shit on the ball.

To come out with the statement he put lots of crosses in like that is ridiculous. Eriks crossing was abysmal, 9/10 they ended up in the stand behind the goalkeeper. This is also the player who admitted his crossing was shit, so he started shooting instead. Let's forget this though aye.

I liked Erik Pieters, but no doubt if he were still here, there'd be endless moaning and complaints about wages and such...

A premier league left back still unsuitable for Stoke City though ? Crazy isn't it. He was the least of our problems, yet we were told we had to get rid because he was unsuitable for the diamond. Then we go sign Ward. Madness, absolute madness.

Is this the same Erik pieters that was slated season after season for not defending too well and useless getting forward and crossing?
Now all of a sudden he's Roberto Carlos. His first assist đ was a massive boot in the opposite direction that the wind caught hold of. The second was a cross from deep
I liked pieters, but don't all of a sudden think he's a missing link. Don't forget he was a big part of last season's wonderful defensive unit.

IMHO Iâll always remember EP as being a competent dependable defender who suffered from being hung out to dry by a manager who tried to turn him into something he wasnât.
They may well be reasons behind the scenes why he was seen as âsurplus to requirementsâ, weâll never know.
It does seem strange to bring Ward in to replace him whilst NJ chases the ideal player to fill in a LWB in his preferred diamond shape.
All the best to him

He was the only fullback who had Salah pretty much in his back pocket that season before we were relegated. Still never seemed to give 110% like other feckless cunts.

It's probably not surprising he left given the amount of shit he got. Fans did the same with Nzonzi too, our best player when he was here and got loads of abuse from the stands.

Like all football supporters we are fickle. I always liked Erik, solid pro, reasonably dependable, 6-7 out of 10 every week. Played a lot of games, probably many when he was carrying knocks and niggles. Sometimes a little frustrating with his crossing, but that's why he was at Stoke.
And yet... the abuse he received on this forum was almost weekly and constant. But now his departure is another negative, another reason to criticise the football club.
There may be reasons why he went. I don't know how long he had left on his contract (FM?), or whether he was one of the higher earners. NJ clearly didn't think he fitted in with his long term plan. Maybe NJ thought he would get a new LWB that hasn't materialised yet. It is probably a combination of a lot of reasons.
We're re-building and isn't an immediate process. Instead of beating the club, let's cut them a little slack and see how it develops. We're 2 games in to this new "project".

Ecker wasn't the best and almost certainly not right for the flying wingback Jones craves & needs going fwd.
That said, I'd have him over either of the two options he has in the squad now.
A massive opportunity missed for a massively important position.

Surely the point with Erik was (and to quote Nathan on roughly 200,000 separate occasions) 'we will only get people in who are better than what weâve got.
In this with Pieterâs, he has patently and wilfully failed. In fact we are significantly weaker in that area since Erik was hounded out like a sick dog.
