Pleased for Erik back at his level. I thought Ward was poor slow and looking every inch a 34 yr old getting a final payoff. Oh well JM will be back next week Eriks departure seemed strange at the time and it gets more bizarre as the season progresses. Really poor judgement by the manager on this one

This is the one I really don’t get with Jones.
An absolutely fucked up decision to banish him in January.
We’ll struggle to sign a better left back for this level.

He was one of the most criticised players on this site for the past two years and there was a reason for that. A bit of selective memory from many.

Two assists for Burnley today in a 3-0 win against Southampton We let him go why ? Because our manager is a fuckwit perhaps.

What does being criticised on here have to with reality. When we were looking to push on in the prem we did perhaps need better but we aren’t getting a better left back where we are now. Whatever happens with Jones it looks like NJ has cut his nose off to spite his face here. It’s all good him living in this diamond fairy land with his unicorn fullbacks if he’s going to get them but he hasn’t. And he seems naive.

Just to be clear, his first "assist" is a hoofed clearance that Southampton made an absolute mare of. The second is a good long ball/pass, neither of these were crosses. So yet to be proven he can cross. 👍

Wow are you really saying Clucas is a better left back than Pieters? Holy shit! OK he is now the best we have I agree. Jones had only been at his desk for a few minutes before he decided that Pieters wasn't for him even though apart from Tymon he was the only LB in the building and decided to go with BMI who he has since bombed. It was a naive move presumably Pieters was the victim of Jones the new manager flexing his muscles. If you don't have riches in one department you stick with what you have and you only get rid if a) The player is trouble and you have fallen out with him. That's clearly not the case and according to Pieters there was no fall out b) The player wants out, I personally spoke to Erik who said his preferred choice would be to stay at SCFC c) You have an immediate replacement lined up. Huge error of judgement by an inexperienced manager to bomb a player and replace him with a CB and then fast forward to a new season where he has to try and convert a winger to left back. People are saying Erik was hopeless and yet here we are with him playing in the Prem. A very astute Sean Dyche rates him and took him and gave us in return a 34 yr old Ward after a final payday who we will be reluctant to play too often as it will trigger a one year extension on his contract....holy shit!! What a shambles

What a shambles Pieters was abysmal in the relegation season at Stoke and I'm amazed anyone can try to argue otherwise. Jones obviously took a dislike to him and no-one knows the reason why. If we are to persist with a diamond I would argue that Clucas is far better than Pieters. He gets into positions to score goals and creates as well. He appears to be difficult to like and quite a few can't see past this.

His first “assist” was literally just him twatting it down the pitch to clear the ball.
The second was a better cross than I ever saw him make in a Stoke shirt.

Under Rowett in the first half of the season he scored twice, watching Ward today, Jones's choice of replacement for Pieters, pathetic attempts at even getting near the target suggests without question that Dyche knows what he is doing when he evaluates a player and decided that Pieters was the better option. I am not putting Erik up there as a perfect solution for LB, merely pointing out how Jones fucked up with his LWB/LB option and made a very naive call....one of many The fact we are currently relying on an ageing pro and a converted winger just proves my point.

Ward hit it with his right foot and sliced it. Erik was clean through away at QPR and hit it with his right foot...he tapped it to the keeper. So let's be fair with the comparisons, Pieters goals were left foot blasts.

Oh well JM will be back next week You must have missed the opening minute as Ward stormed down the line with electryfying pace, not seen the like since I don't know when. Actually I'm pleased for Erik too, but he's gone and he's not coming back.

He never put a cross in like that ever🤔 He put lots of crosses in like that but our shit forwards never got on the end of any of them. Erik pieters should still be at stoke city. Getting shut of him when we had zero chance of getting anyone better is the current managers most stupid decision to date.
