I cant see a quick return myself. I honestly think we've more chance of going down than going up next season. Some teams spend years and years stuck in this quagmire of a division. I think we might be looking 5 or 6 years yet minimum. Just hope it's not longer.

!!!!! I hope not 22 years. Was it 23 years years outside the top division between 1985 and 2008. That would make it 2041 until we go up!

Hopefully long enough to scrap what we've got and rebuild what made this club great. (With the addition of promoting youth)

Hiring a very qualified and respected technical director, a European manager and scouting some of the best young talent around the globe? I think we’re going to have to find another way. The Vale are more likely to get into the Prem before that happens at Stoke 😂

At the start of every season there will be 24 clubs hoping to go up, with at least a dozen of them having some sort of realistic chance to do so. Over a 46 game season it requires a whole load of factors, including luck, to be one of the 3 successful clubs...and every season it potentially gets more difficult, although clubs like Brighton, Bournemouth and Huddersfield and now Sheffield United have shown that parachute payments aren't the be all and end all What this does say is that, for Stoke City, staying in the top flight would probably have been easier, and cheaper, than trying to get back up

We spent a fortune badly. Norwich and Sheff Utd on the other hand were both promoted whilst making a net profit on transfer activity. You don’t have to spend big to go up, you just need to spend wisely.

If we don't go back up next year I can't see us doing it for a long time.
Hence why recruitment and the right managerial team is so crucial for next season.

Amazingly, it could be one year, if we actually sign a goal scorer.
I very occasionally watch football focus LIVE on BBC red button... All the goals as they go in.
Dion Dublin knows ( almost) zero about stoke, so simply says( every week)... they 'just lack a goal scorer. The game is so much easier when you have a goal scorer '
Even my cat knows that!
Still true though
If, huge if, we sign a goal scorer, then we are in business

We've spent more seasons in the top flight than in any other league despite our previous 23 year absence.
We are the richest club in the league and realistically, we should be promoted within 3 years of relegation. Year 1 has been and gone already.

Still true though If, huge if, we sign a goal scorer, then we are in business We spent £40 million on Diouf, Berahino, Afobe and Vokes didn't we, you'd like to think there is enough there for the Championship wouldn't you? It's a darn sight more than anyone else has spent. You can understand why the Board might be quizzical when the transfer team go back to them for another 10 or 12 million. I'd ask them what happened to the last 4 clowns!

If we can shift a sizable lump of the waste and recruit smartly we could do it in 2 or probably 3 years. Think realistically the target for this season would be push for top-half, build up the foundations of a team that can start to really compete at this level and hopefully a nice cup run.
