Do you remember the football cards you got in packets of tea. At about 5 yrs old my dad handed me one of Banksie & said " the greatest keeper in the world son" & that was it I became a Stokie!

My hero, my absolute favourite player down at the Vic when I was but a twelve years old girl and took the bus from 'Castle to stand in the Boothen End on Satdees
Deepest sympathy to his family.

A proper Stoke City FC legend. & what a top bloke he was too. So many people would have stories similar to this but a few years ago Gordon gave up his time to come and manage an Oatcake mix and match team for a Play on the Pitch at the Brit. Those on the home team will remember his rousing and amusing pre match team talk out on the pitch and how he posed for pictures and signed autographs without a care In the world. Top Top bloke. EIGHT years ago! An unforgettable day for those lucky enough to be involved but reading the many tributes, one of many selfless acts from a humble and kind man who cared so deeply for the area and the club he so proudly represented. RIP Gordon.

Also an ambassador for Alzheimer's Society in his later years, a cause I hold very close to my heart.
He was present at the Memory Walk at Hanley Park this year as I believe he was last year too.

Can't remember who to credit for Gordon attending that day, was it Cilla perhaps?!

Only just seen this. I'm a Stoke City fan, and a goalkeeper, so there's no greater hero for me. I feel bereft, so it must be so much harder for his loved ones. Rest in peace, Banksy.
You were the greatest.

I can't think of a better inspirational person than Gordon Banks. He did the things most can only dream of without ever losing sight of who he was and where he came from.
Thank you is not enough. Your legend will live forever with every persons life you have touched.
RIP Gordon

I like to recall the comments by the other legend who also should have been knighted ( possibly what happened at Bogota stopped it).…. something like" Banksy, you are losing it , next time catch the ball" ... following that Pele save.
