RIP Banks of England Often mis-used but he was and remains forever a Legend for Stoke and the whole of England. I remember the day of his car crash crying as a schoolboy when my dad told me he would never play again and Id never see him again in the Stoke goal one last time. I was convinced he'd make it make it back, full on Denial kicked in. The Penalty save poster was on my wall the whole of my childhood. I've always been so proud that he chose to be an ambassador for our club. Met him a few occasions he was a lovely lovely man. My condolences to all his family. I'd happily contribute to a statue of that penalty save that could adorn our ground forever. I'm so sad, a great man and a true gentleman. Attachment Deleted

Rest in Peace.
A true legend for both club and country. A colossal figure for Stoke and a hero to many. Before my time but I was genuinely disappointed to read this news. His status as arguably the worlds greatest ever goalie will live on for a long time to come.
Condolences to his family and friends.

Awful news. Won't forget him doing the last World Cup draw in his Stoke City tie amongst other the other wonderful memories we have. A true gent. They don't make them like him anymore. Several of my friends here in South America noticed that and mentioned it to me at the time. Even decades after retiring he was putting Stoke on the map.. and will continue to do so. Something of a shame we got ourselves relegated and the minute’s silence won’t be broadcast so widely around the world like it would if we were in the Prem. Farewell Gordon.

Sad day indeed. If I recall correctly, Gordon’s last game before his fateful injury was at Anfield where he sustained an injury that needed attention at the Vic the following morning. I will never forget the news later that Sunday that he had been injured in the car crash that lost him the sight of one eye. The best tribute we can pay him is to get back into the Premier as soon as we can. d.

Banksy has a special place in all our Stokie hearts. RIP to ours and England's best ever goal keeper. The memory of seeing him at the old Wembley when we won the 1972 Cup Final is treasured.

Very sad news. I can still remember how great I felt the day THE Gordon Banks signed for Stoke. We all have our own memories of his saves etc but this sad day has reminded me of how much of an impact he had on young kids like me. Whenever we played "3 and in" on Longton Park we would be anyone when we were playing "out" but when it was our turn to be goalie, we were always only ever "Gordon Banks". Even into the 1980s the ultimate compliment as a keeper after making a save was a "Hey Gordon" or "Oi, Banksie" from a defender or opponent. RIP Gordon

Move that statue Stoke City , pride of place outside the stadium and how about the Gordon Banks stand Unlike the Ritchie statue (well bust) I actually think the Banks one is in a good location however the Gordon Banks stand is a must. imho it should be the away end as Banks was England's best not just Stoke's (& Leicester's). Come on Stoke get it done. RIP Sir Gordon

My lad and me were fortunate enough to attend a Stoke City old boys do not so long ago.
The evening was mainly for some of our Norwegian fans who'd travelled over, everyone wanted to meet the great man and he had time for everyone as usual, including my lad and me thankfully.
Not just the world's best ever goalkeeper, also a great man.
RIP a true legend.

Fancying myself as a keeper in my younger years Banks and Peter Fox were my idols.
How Banks is talked about off the pitch gives you an idea of the man....a giant and legend. RIP and sincere best wishes to his family.

Remember going to watch his first game for us at the Vic, ironically vs Leicester. I was sat with Dad in the Butler Street stand in line with his penalty box and it sent shivers down my spine to think this great man was our keeper and I was so close to him. I was having a pint in The King Malcolm Hotel in Dunfermline on the Sunday evening of his accident and a fellow Stokie came in and broke the news. Of course we didn’t know the full extent of his injury until few days later. The notion portrayed on radio this morning that Sir Gordon somehow resurrected his career in the NSL is somewhat misleading. He did play a few games for sure, with some success, but his loss of binocular vision severely handicapped his ability. One very sad fact is that, in 2001, he had to sell his 1966 Winners Medal and cap for a little over £150,000. Once again puts into sickening perspective the money fluttering around PL football like confetti being hoovered up by greed of mediocre players and their leech like agents. RIP Legend, Gent and True Hero of our great club.
