Did anyone manage to actually attend the funeral service ? I saw a few supporters on the web cam ..... Angela Smith, Martin Smith, Roger & David Davies, Nick Mansfield, Malcolm Clarke, Nello. I can only assume that they were invited separately from those that were successful in the club ballot ? I understand the family ( particularly Robert) wanted supporters to be included and invited to the service , wherever limited numbers allowed To that end , I understand a small number of invites were allocated by the club to supporters association reps etc, other places were allocated via a ballot , whilst speaking to some prior to arrangements at the Bet365 , some supporters were direct invites of the family Although numbers were understandably extremely limited , speaking to people before the doors opened at Bet365 , several long standing supporters that you still see at grounds up and down the country , or did the miles in the Banks era were able to be accommodated I was honoured and touched beyond words , that the supporters club offered me one of their cherished places , though after much thought in the end I declined ...I feared the occasion would be just too emotional,no offence was intended , rather the opposite ... the last thing I wanted was to be an embarrassment or bring out the emotions of people that were battling to keep things together Instead this allowed me to plan and manage my emotions more easily on the day , making a very early visit to the Vic and his statue , together with Leader’s bust by the Boothen .. before watching the cortège at the Bet 365 then headed to Boothen Old Road / Gable street , the site of the main entrance to the Vic .. were the cortège paused in the rain ... that was probably the most emotional poignant moment of the day A wonderful if very sad day .. that the city of Stoke on Trent , not just Stokies , should be enormously proud of

Piers Morgan said it was disgusting that he was never knighted.

To be fair, on Central news Leicester and Chesterfield were mentioend but it was largely concentrating on Stoke. Hardly a poor show really, more to be expected that the areas he played for would focus on his time when he was in that area. All that's important is that he's remembered and he was in Leicester on BBC East Midlands, and was around here on Central so all bases covered. It isn't (and shouldn't be) about any kind of "Ownership" of his memory.
He did play the majority of his career for Stoke which got no mention. 293 games for Leicester 194 games for Stoke I thought it was a nice touch to have goalkeepers from Stoke, Leicester, Chesterfield and England as pallbearers.

Nic was representing the Supporters Club. Nello and Martin were both invited by the family as a friend. I thought that at both the Villa game and yesterday the Club did a superb job. I doubt whether there will ever again be an occasion when so many of the greats of football are gathered in the same place.

Big Bren? Garth Crooks was there. I didn't personally see the others you mention, but with so many there and not all of them instantly recognisable with the passage of time, it's difficult to be sure.

Malcolm, do you know if the club have any plans to make the recording of the service available? Obviously not everyone was able to attend or to view the live stream and I know many would like the opportunity to see an excellent tribute funeral I was told to email the Stoke City media department which I have done.....awaiting a reply

Wondered if he was hoping to score a doggy bag from the wake for his supper That bag goes everywhere with him, and I mean everywhere And he did justice to the buffet !

Nice to see Smudge schmoozing with CEO of the year. And Malcolm Clarke with Mr PFA. Thick as thieves! Hey, that's not fair. Gordon T. said hello outside the church, we shook hands, and that was that. But seriously, if we want to achieve change in football, at either club or national level, you don't get very far if you just blank people in significant positions, particularly on a day like yesterday.

George Eastham all the way over from South Africa for his mate Banksy. Magnificent. Another gentleman who never gets the recognition he deserves. In addition to scoring his only goal of the season (he usually got one) in the 72 final, his successful legal action against Newcastle United brought an end to the derisory maximum wage for players. He was a big part of the revival under Waddington, who brought in several players like Eastham and Sir Stan and revived their careers.

Yes, a brilliant players who's role in our revival is often overlooked. He was not responsible for the end of the maximum wage however, that was Jimmy Hill. George was instrumental in bringing about freedom of contract.

I would like to thank all of you for all your lovely messages on here, the support from everybody has been a great comfort and meant so much more than words can say. Dad loved Stoke from the moment we moved ...he especially loved the people, it was and will remain “home” to us ... thank you again, it’s nice to know he was loved by so many .

You’re so welcome, glad I am old enough to have been able to stand behind the goal and watch many of Gordon’s excellent displays for Stok City. He is regarded as a true legend around the world and especially in Stoke on Trent and surrounding areas.
Thank you!
