If he goes to Leicester or another Premier League club, is there anything we can do about that?! As for Villa, they've been the play offs 2 seasons in a row now and are a bigger club so again, is it our fault if he goes there?! If they don't get promoted maybe the manager connection and probable higher wage budget could swing it our way. In any case, I want a naturally left footed played at LB tbh. The point I'm trying to make is that this guy would be one of Jones flagship signings, a very important position for his diamond formation to work and I'd imagine he thought it would be in the bag. I just hope he's got a decent alternative lined up. Should always have a good second, and third, option in case any signing doesn't come off. E.g. Pulis bagged Sorrenson when wassisface turned us down. That's a good test of recruitment.

Yeah, a left footed left back would be a great alternative! I saw JJ play in centre midfield late in the season so perhaps he's finding his feet still? Why would Leicester look to sign a right footed left back though?

I realise it's funny & realise vast majority of the board think Scholes is lying however yes absolutely each player should be watched many many times that's what other clubs do.

Really not fussed if he comes or not, they're has to be other dynamic left footed full backs out there, probably cheaper as well.

I think we can safely assume that we won't be signing this player when Villa and Leicester are interested, and he comes out and says that he likes playing in a side that keeps the ball on the deck, passes it around and creates loads of chances.

Yes, but the side he played that style with was created by our manager. Luton changed very little when NJ left. It will be NJ’s mission to replicate that here.

I can’t believe the number of our fans who think we are a big club and that it isn’t a sideways move for any player who has just been promoted to come to Stoke. We may be able to pay more in salary this year, but that’s it. We finished 16th, no where near the play offs and won the 5th least games of any team in the Championship. Given the choice of Brighton (Clarke) or Leicester or Derby or Villa (JJ) - all bigger clubs than Stoke, you’d be nuts to choose to come to Stoke.

Irrepective of who is or isn't a big club (we are far bigger than the likes of Brighton/Bournemouth etc but they are in a higher league so have the pulling power) we can quadruple the wages of any of the players who've been promoted from the likes of Barnsley and Luton. If Derby don't get promoted it's fairly common knowledge that they could struggle financially and may need to cut their wage bill, we would be able to pay higher wages. Ultimately that's what it comes down to with the modern day footballer......

A list of 4 sounds a relatively small list from other managers' I've heard talk, where I am recalling a quote of 10. While JJ is a promising full back, there should be comfortably be 10 more candidates across Europe who fit the profile of athletic, technically able LBs in the right age and price bracket. (Besides if JJ went to Villa, I'd be relatively interested in Neil Taylor). I'd still take Barry Douglas - with his delivery skills ahead of Justin.

Most decent managers like to have a couple of characters in the dressing room that they trust implicitly. Sometimes it is because they are friends of the manager, sometimes they were team mates of the manager but more often than not they were trusted lieutenants at a previous club.
Durban did it with Irvine, Cloughie did it with McGovern, Lou did it with Overson.
NJ needs a couple of guys from Luton to pull the dressing room in his direction.

Bigness of club is defined as bigness of wage packet. Size of ground, historical success, attendance figures, style of play, colour of shirts, altitude of ground, lunch menu, etc all take a back seat in comparison.

Did Douglas play much for Leeds? www.transfermarkt.co.uk/barry-douglas/leistungsdaten/spieler/91854Nearly every game when fit by the looks of it - and got a bad injury in April which finished his season. Left-back is an interesting one, because it's the most obvious position we're now looking for (along with holding midfielder) and we haven't really heard a sniff of a name in either, apart from Justin who now could well be off elsewhere. Of the names seemingly available, Jay Dasilva looks a great shout, unless Chelsea have to now keep him as cover due to their ban

From what I've heard the dressing room is rock solid behind the manager. "Best coaching sessions ever", "100% bought into his ideas" This is from a player.
