Whether Rishi breaking another Manifesto Pledge is a good or a bad thing will depend on your viewpoint. As I said on the Brexit thread it aligns with EU regulations and surprising a view Gullis took recently and less surprising a view Starmer holds both on different subjects. The problem is that since 2016 Industry has had nothing but uncertainty which as a result has meant lower investment and productivity or worse investment elsewhere. 5 times Industry has geared up for new import controls and 5 times they have been postponed. Multi Millions have been spent on Port Infrastructure for an event that has not happened It's amusing that Rishi calls Starmer Mr Flipflop for changing his mind, which of course he does. I think we should call Rishi The Little Shephard Boy who Cried Wolf and I wish he'd take his Flock Off

It's a smart move by the conservatives for a few reasons:
- Climate doubt. This will gain support from people who aren't as invested in climate causes. - Just Stop Oil protestors. Alot of people have got frustrated by these people so those who have a problem with then will see this as sunak giving them the fingers. - Costs. There are obviously some cost problems with the green stuff which impact lower income families more. This could help get votes in this area.
From the conservative pov it's a good area to target as there's alot of votes to gain from it.
Hopefully by the time of an election people remember the record of the last 13 years and don't base their voting decision just on this policy as I'm sure they'll soon begin to reverse it if they get another term.

Ford don't seem best pleased, having planned for 2030? Ford don’t need to run an extension cable out of their living room window and down the street to their car. I can't personally see why that's a valid reason for postponing, sorry.

The charging time needs to be the same as filling up time. Queues of cars waiting for hours at charging points isn’t really all that viable is it.

I hope you are joking there is no way in hell i would be able to charge an electric car not from my electric source anyway, i can't usually park my car in the same postcode most of the time, you can say charging points can be fitted so everyone can charge at point never be done in time plus how people park not very well in general points would be wasted. Simple fact is by 2030 i probably won't be able have a car because 1 can't afford it 2 probably be nowhere to fill up with diesel or petrol as garages will turn to electric if i keep my car now 3 as mentioned in another thread parts etc.. hope the public transport inproves by then or else I'm fooked 😁😁 yeah right.

Most working people that actually drive and have to commute and have families and jobs and busy lives won't have the time and patience for that.

Never has bever will be under any government/s plus i think this country is just not suitable for all electric with tight built up areas etc.

Absolute desperation from these fuckers.Last time it was save our jobs and fuck Europe and now it’s save the Tory’s and fuck the environment. There are enough Daily Mailers out there who’ll fall for it, and they know it.

I can't personally see why that's a valid reason for postponing, sorry. The charging time needs to be the same as filling up time. Queues of cars waiting for hours at charging points isn’t really all that viable is it. It's just not realistic to fully, or even say 75% charge a lithium battery in under 5 minutes. There's safety concerns regarding fire risk, the already very expensive and resource intensive batteries degrade more quickly. Drivers are just going to have to get used to planning ahead. It's a huge challenge to implement the infrastructure required to switch fully to electric cars, one that I don't have any faith in the tories or labour being able to implement to a level where we can carry on using cars the way we do currently (which in my view is largely greenwash anyway). We should be vigorously investing in a modal shift in our approach to transport in addition to electrifying vehicles.
