Someone who is proud of rolling out a system that would now prevent her own parents leaving a hostile regime and making a life for themselves, simply isn't wired up right.

It must be reassuring to the Tories that no matter how badly they screw up or how nasty they become there will be a procession of people happy to apologise for them and tell the world how really they are just misunderstood.

Patel seems to me as someone who is on a mission " to get things done" and no one will be allowed to get in her way. I'd imagine that she is very forthright in what she wants, makes it clear and won't stand for any resistance, perceived or real. Her approach might include shouting. For me the issue really rests on the resistance and the degree of unco-operarion that Rutnam was " guilty" of. Had he gone beyond his role, following 33 years in the civil service? My suspicion and they of others is that senior civil servants have over stepped their boundaries and tole for many years...Advisors advise, Ministers decide......but have advisors been economical with the truth in respect of their advice?....It would not matter so much when advisors and politicians share the same beliefs ,as has been the case in recent years in respect of Brexit. Perhaps a change of personnel is inevitable and necessary if a new regime who actually want to go in a different direction comes in....a bit like a football manager who brings in his own backroom staff. Perhaps, due to her personality, it could be argued that Patel has gone about it in the wrong way. Perhaps she would have been treated differently if she had been a man ( perhaps she should have self identified upon taking up the post). Perhaps there was no other way to get rid of the mandarins if indeed they are a problem. If sides are to be taken I am on Patel's side , unless more is revealed. Or perhaps she's just a massive prick? It's easy to make that insult on virtually anybody in the public eye particularly politicians. As Partick has said, it more than likely says more about YOUR starting point.

No, I think Idi resented the successes of the Asians in Uganda and booted them out. Bu he didn’t boot Priti Patel's parents out as they had moved to the UK several years before he came to power. Facts eh! Who needs ‘em!

Indophobia was rampant throughout Uganda in the 60s based around wealth and the usual tropes, not dissimilar to Germany and the Jews in the 20s and 30s. There was no doubt her family left a hostile country. Not that worries Gripper. As long as she's alright.

The points system doesnt apply to refugees so it doesn't matter how many times the left repeat it its still bollocks. Still nice to know whose side Labour are on, a man found guilty by an inquiry of bullying Labour are trying to get him into the lords, an mp where the only evidence is unnamed briefings from a chinless wonder and their mates Labour went her sacked yet any criticism of dianne is deemed racism within minutes hmmmm

The fact is they knew what was happening in Uganda and were welcomed over to the UK to set up successful businesses. Something she is wilfully denying other people in similar circumstances to do. Maybe Gripper thinks Windrush should apply here for the Patels and deport herself!

Unfortunately the Labour party supporters ( I'm not talking about you) are in a groove of " let's latch on to anything we can to bring the government down".....irrespective of any real substance....it won't win them elections. Compared to what we've had for many a year Patel is trying to do something different in the Home Office, and it's only early days.

My point is people in a similar situation as her parents could claim refugee so I repeat its complete bollocks and also ignores the changes in the world from 40-50 years ago nevermind the changes in immigration patterns which at that time was in the hundreds and thousands rather than the hundreds of thousands it is now. You mention windrush its interesting isnt it that the chinless wonders allegations of bullying had nearly reduced him to tears yet the report yet to be published that is believed to say the home office is institutionally racist and he personally saw people wrongly deported he saw nothing to resign over there hmmmm.

I think that she may be prone to tantrums and shouting, but also perhaps there has been a lot of unnecessary, perhaps arrogant, resistance. Perhaps sometimes people in high power jobs can't hang about and use " people skills" to get their agenda through. Perhaps Rutnam isnt blameless?

From my right of centre perspective, she comes across as a nasty piece of work and I'm not just talking about her latest faux pas. She has a proven record of questionable judgement so I'm minded to believe the allegations whether they are politically motivated or not. On another note, I would. However I'm not sure if she would be a devil between the sheets or whether she would be emailing someone through minute or two of ecstasy.

I'd be more concerned about getting rid of some of those we have in the UK already. Those that refuse to integrate whilst getting British nationality and bringing in their extended families.
I'm not sure how making it more difficult for EU people to come in, but easier for Non-EU people (less competition vs EU people) is going to help. Maybe we'll see more Indian, African, Middle Eastern, etc. people coming in as of 2021.
As we're also aiming for skilled profiles does that mean that the top jobs will likely go to Non-UK nationals (they'll accept lower wages) while all the low skilled jobs currently taken up largely by eastern europeans will go to British people.
There are plenty of questions to ask about how this is going to work in practice. A society largely made up of foreigners taking all the skilled jobs while the UK nationals work beneath them isn't something I find enticing.

Celebrating a bill which would have stopped her own family coming here and ultimately made them stateless and homeless. What a piece of work. Not true. Here's an article saying her parents were British passport holders at the time. That time being when Asians in Uganda were being targeted by Idi Amin. Here's the cabinet papers about the Commonwealth Immigration control and Legislation. "In 1967, Asians from Kenya and Uganda, fearing discrimination from their own national governments, began to arrive in Britain. They had retained their British citizenship following independence, and were therefore not subject to the act."She didn't "admit" anything. She was on the Nick Ferrari show who offered that her parents wouldn't have been able to come to the UK and Patel said it wasn't about her parents background. That has since been pushed by a racist, misogynist left-wing media as "admitting" but you keep pushing it fella. And finally the Asians fleeing Uganda were not left "homeless and Stateless". Many were British passport holders anyway, tens of thousands were accepted through the Immigration Act, thousands fled to other ex-Commonwealth countries. " At the time of the expulsion, there were approximately 80,000 individuals of South Asian descent in Uganda, of whom 23,000 had had their applications for citizenship both processed and accepted. A further 50,000 were British passport holders,"

"In 1972, Idi Amin expelled large number of Asians from Uganda. Amid much controversy, the government permitted the immigration of 27,000 Asians through a specially constituted Uganda Resettlement Board."

You've no idea how many were applying and being refused pre-1972. You've no idea how many eventually ended up in ex-Commonwealth countries. You've no idea how many of those ex-Commonwealth countries also refused entry. Stop digging, you've lost. But you make an interesting point. How many more newsagents do you think the UK needs in 2020? Print media declining, fags been phased out, a rising digital media and quite literally a shop on every corner.

We are an unfriendly and unwelcoming country and Patel is a traitor to her heritage. The only people who have lost are those in similar situations today.
