Makes Mordaunt the favourite now. Fuck knows how they'll do it in a week. It doesn't make sense unless there's a coronation pretty damn quickly. Brady said the result will be announced on the 28th. Isn't there supposed to be a full budget announcement on the 31st? How can you announce a new PM 3 days before a full budget? Is the new PM simply going to accept that they don't have any say in the budget? It doesn't make sense. Mordaunt was my favourite of the previous candidates (not that any of them seemed amazing) - I reckon the Budget must already be in progress, and I reckon MPs knew that today's announcement was coming. It's just one big mess. I think postal strikes are on the cards too. Optimistic to get things sent and returned in a week!

The members won't vote in my opinion. If there are multiple candidates, they will mysteriously drop out before a membership vote is required.
This is democracy clinging on to power Tory style now.
Brady already knows which napper he's going to lay the crown on.

The 1,305 octogenarian tory members are looking to expedite the process of appointing the new leader and save going through 27 rounds of pretence by confirming ‘so long as they’re not brown’. Ethnic demographic of recent Tory ministers suggest otherwise. Sunak, Javid, Braverman, Kwarteng etc so it`s a bit of a daft comment really. The Tory membership weren’t involved in the selection process for ministers though were they? It wouldn’t surprise me if the cravat wearing folk who lived through and championed the Commonwealth did not vote for Sunak purely because of his ethnicity.

I remember when people said trump was done just because he boasted about some of the sexual assaults he committed. And that was weeks, not years before the election. Voters are good at coming up with excuses to vote how we want, it just takes a little while. we are not Americans Spot on. There's a lot that Trump did and was accused of in the run up to elections that, if it had happened in the UK, would have seen him having to stand down as a candidate. It's very different over here. Just on it's own, the disgusting impersonation he did of a reporter with a diasbility in front of thousands would have seen him gone from the ballot instantly over here. It would have been a grovelling apology and told to resign. In normal times i would agree that over here most of the sleaze, broken promises and (ahem) "white lies" are indeed forgotten about by the time elections actually come around but unless the next PM sorts out the financial shambles we're in, where record numbers of WORKING people are now having to make use of foodbanks and soup kitchens, then they have no chance at all. They have very little chance of sorting that as obviously it's an international problem many countries are facing but the voters will only care about what's happening to them and won't give a shit what other nations are also facing (but a lot of other countries are at least trying to be fair to all and in particular the impoverished, rather than Liz who just tried to look after the high earners). It's been a chaotic, embarrassing mess (for both the Tories and the nation globally) for far too long now over far too many issues. They're out of their depth and have been for a while. Far too many incompetent ministers, with clearly no clue of what they're supposed to be doing or how to do it. Just a collection of bumblers who fall at every hurdle whenever they're put in front of a journalist or camera, let alone when they actually have to try to do their job ("I'm going to do X....oh the experts and public say i should actually do Y?..yeah, yeah that's actually what i meant, honest"). A bunch of posh schoolkids basically winging it as they go along. They need something seriously major to go right for them to stand any hope in 2 years, even against Starmer.

Where to I don’t know but the UK is going to be a real mess for years to come without the idiot Johnson who will undoubtedly make it even worse. Please God not Johnson 🙏

Please God not Johnson 🙏 He would need to get through the MP ballots first, and based on the widespread mutiny amongst MPs and resignations before he finally got the boot, he’d surely be wiped out of the race at the first or second rounds before getting to Tory membership voting. Leave the entire vote to the membership, and Boris would be back in a flash.

I appreciate our government is in a shambles, but the thought struck me this morning that if we have an incompetent, or telling lies, or corrupt PM we get rid of them and force them out of power. Twice this year and it has happened in the past, like Thatcher. There are many so called democracies that would have to go through a long impeachment process. This thought came to me this morning when reading the French news. Macron has just been voted into power for 5 years. He was given power although two thirds of the French people voted for someone else in the first round of the Presidential elections. He does not have a free hand because he is supposedly kept in check by the French Assembly, but www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/19/french-government-to-use-constitutional-powers-to-force-through-budgetHow democratic is that? It's little wonder the French take to the streets and strike. It's the only way they can get government to change policy by massive demonstrations.

As one of our new laws since brexit means we can be tagged and imprisoned for protesting. One can only dream.

haven't got a clue what she was saying weeza lad could you translate please The “f” word generally isn’t seen as a big deal in NL/Germany. It’s an English word with little meaning. I’ve been in numerous presentations where they will use it and the audience wouldn’t really notice.

She raised the subject of Truss's behaviour, and said " I know he's a lier but I miss Boris".My brother in law frequents pubs, which I don't, and tells me there is a lot of support for Johnson still. The "problem" with democracy is everyone gets just one vote, all opinions are equal, there is no acceptable alternative.

Even the barmy Tory Party wont elect a PM who within days of taking over would be under investigation by the privileges committee and quite possibly be banned from the Parliamentary estate for a period of time.
Even they are not that quite that fucking bonkers are they?
