Maybe Braverman found out Truss also thinks she's "shit" just like she does about Javid...!
Way to run your team, Liz!

"The business of government relies on people accepting responsibility for their mistakes. Pretending we haven't made mistakes and carrying on as if everyone can't see we've made them and hoping that things will magically come right is not serious politics. I have made a mistake, I accept responsibility, I resign."
Blimey, a bit of a barbed swipe at Truss there.

Big problem for the Tories is this replace truss with ? They lose heavily at the election then their career is over as they would have to resign
Better if they call an election now see who's left at this rate it will only be Larry the cat😁😁

Even Cummings admiting what she's alleged to have done is routine.
Clearly they wanted her out.
It's going to be fun watching the Tory civil war play out. Hopefully it's messy and brutal

Sounding like one from Prime Minister Hunt this one! A tofu dinner in order tonight I think. I really would like to know who is leading this purge? If you remember, when Braverman fell out of the leadership contest, she immediately got behind Truss and took a lot of the MP's supporting her with her. Now a Sunak supporter who has publicly been bad mouthing Truss is replacing her.
What is going on?
Maybe Truss realised she made a terrible mistake surrounding herself with her supporters who egged her on to pursue her catastrophic policies? She now realises the only way of buying herself a bit more time is to get help from those with a more of a balanced view (Hunt being the most obvious example)? Who knows? Whatever it is she's making it up as she goes along.

I hear all that, Paul, but the fact that he has a reputation as a 'One Nation' socially-liberal Remainer (much like Cameron and others in the Cabinet during those first five years), doesn't alter the fact that he's economically right-wing, favouring a low-tax, market-led economy. He may be more fiscally responsible and less radical than Kwarteng, but the differences lie only in the methodology; in the long run, he wants exactly the same things. Is he actually more fiscally responsible? In his leadership bid Hunt went further than the Truss proposal to keep Corporation Tax at 19% he proposed reducing to 15%, if I remember rightly, which would have caused a bigger funding gap than the removal of the 45% Income tax rate. This is actually the point isn't it about his mysterious appointment? Not only is he now posturing diametrically opposed to Truss but he seems to be saying things on tax he hasn't historically believed true. The only key credentials he has for this job are being involved in Austerity 1.0 not being Boris and not being a Truss acolyte. Not only is his ascendancy a mystery but so is his message. If we throw Braverman now into the mix there seems to be a purge on far right cabinet members but also fiscal views. Yet no one can see who is making these decisions. It isn't Truss for sure.

Shapps (the bloke who has been bad mouthing Truss for the last few days) confirmed as the new Home Sec.

I don't think they were taken by surprise. Sunak told them exactly what would happen before it happened when he was defeated in the Tory Leader election. As for it being a 'conspiracy', that video spells out what was happening behind the scenes. The only thing we don't know is who decided to stunt their agenda. And that's what we're discussing. OS. They were taken totally by surprise at the severity of the market reaction. Truss and Kwartang hadn't expected that reaction or they wouldn't have done it. The Tory right have gone quiet because they now need a rethink (as do Labour). I agree Sunak was correct all along but hardly anyone was listening. Sunak wasn’t, and still isn’t, “correct all along”. He was just the least wrong.

Truss sacked him from Transport ( a minor office) on her becoming PM. Now six weeks later she "appointed him" to one of the highest offices in Government. Total bullshit she never picked Shapps in a million years.

Watched PMQ's earlier and she didn't half come across like a deer in the headlights, quite unlikeable as well with the way she was answering some questions.
Do the right thing and resign.

Shapps - the guy who presided over a road works crisis during a period when no one was using the roads 😂
Comfortably one of the most incompetent politicians in parliament now has one of the most critical roles.
Is this now the biggest political meltdown in modern British history?

Not as chaotic (yet) on the street (and let's hope that doesn't happen) but it's certainly a bigger 'political meltdown' as Nick characterised it, for sure.

Winter of discontent before my time really Is this more chaotic? Throw in the situation in Ukraine, real threat of nuclear war, covid bollocks and the general global chaos, its hard to think of a time in recent memory where so much madness has unfolded before our eyes. The only semblance of normality is us failing to win three on the bounce and losing at home to a totally garbage Rotherham side 😊
