Maybe the best option would be for him to retire to his humble Croft As a self made multi-millionaire which he earned by his own business acumen before entering Politics to serve his Constituents he could certainly afford to do so. Unusual I know but he is a conviction Politician, whether you believe in his position or not (it will be his Constituents who will decide) who is prepared to forego accumulating further wealth to pursue his ideal. Alternatively many of his Peer MPs, many of whom should be convicted, enter Politics as a means to gain influence and Power as a means to accumulate wealth.

Never done politics as I’m not remotely interested but Christ above talk about being friggin clueless this bunch in charge couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery, good job they aren’t been trusted to run a country...
The more I read it gets insane that literally anyone can be considered to run a government.
The Conservative party will be annihilated come the elections.

Yes He gives her a relatively easy ride tomorrow she’ll survive to the mini budget and then who knows a fortnight in politics is a long time He goes for the kill she’ll be gone by Thursday morning Interesting times Well then the tory party is dead and buried no matter what happens really. Would you ever vote for a tory government that's controlled by the Labour leader and his actions? No coming back from that. Even with a new leader you can't recover from that, that's a party which stands for nothing. I would suggest they are probably Dead at the next election But how far there buried depends on damage limitation over the next two years

I've been wondering about this over the weekend, the Tufton Street ideologues have been planning this for years and Truss was clearly their puppet, so what exactly happened last Thursday/Friday? Where on earth did Jeremy Hunt suddenly appear from? Under whose instruction was he parachuted in and why? Are your Braverman's and Reese-Moggs not absolutely spitting feathers, have the ERG simply just stood aside? Hunt is essentially running the country now, yet he was first out in the leadership election with just 18 votes. Who has given him this power and why? Why aren't the press asking this question?

So whether Liz Truss stays in power or not is all down to Starmer at PMQs lol? Do you really think the Tories are so dysfunctional now that the leader of the opposition has more control over who their leader is than their majority in the house. Many of which have been there for 12 years or more. Yes He gives her a relatively easy ride tomorrow she’ll survive to the mini budget and then who knows a fortnight in politics is a long time He goes for the kill she’ll be gone by Thursday morning Interesting times In which case Starmer will go easy on her. She is the perfect tory leader for labour

I was sent this over the weekend which describes your points. "Doesn't matter what you think about Truss she was selected by her party ( as dodgy as that was) and represented a democratically elected govt. And was selected on reducing taxation. A none elected body, that frankly nobody has met or spoken to just the "markets" has dictated a change in policy.
Your vote is worthless Andy just buy shares in Somerset Finance..
Could you imagine if the unions had gone on mass strike against the tax cuts they'd be riot police on the streets and the unions locked up.
Basically everything suspicious about the Tories is now laid bare..

I can't see it, tbh. If the polls are anywhere near accurate, you're talking about a wipe-out of some big names and the loss of about 250 MPs. Even if you accept that the polls are probably overstating the real picture, they're still onto a big defeat. My feeling is she'll try to cling on in the hope that simply by being there things improve over time. It's pretty much rock bottom right now. We can tell that by the fact that FYD is nowhere to be seen , so there is some sense in thinking that the only way is up from where they are. That said, being a lame duck waiting for the chop for the next couple of years isn't a good look either. If the Tories can find a unity candidate in the next couple of weeks she'll be booted out. If not, they may price in electoral defeat in two years time, leave her there and hope to sideline her as much as possible for the duration. I can't see the media or Labour allowing that to happen though. And there's the additional worry about what kind of 'scorched earth' policies the Tories will implement until the election. I can't see it either. But the only way she's going to be leader for the next election is if it happens this side of Christmas. True, but winter elections are unpopular generally (I know the last one was in December) and uncommon. I also agree with your thought that she won't last two years, unless the party was prepared to keep her in place, accept the forthcoming defeat in the election, leave her to carry the can and resign, and spend some time in opposition while they regroup and hope that Labour screw up. That proposition assumes that 150 odd Tory MPs are prepared to go along with it, knowing they're going to lose their seats, of course. Which may be far too altruistic for your average Tory gravy train passenger.

They will now spend their remaining time in power on a slash and burn exercise on what remains of the welfare state. Something they have always wanted to do but knew was electoral suicide in normal times.

Self preservation has started. She only won her seat by a 2.5k majority in 2019. She knows she can't back the pension u-turn or she loses her job at the next election. Imagine she will just be the first of many tory mps to rebel.
"whether cause by Ukraine or mini budget" is key here too.
Basically a tory mp here saying she doesn't believe her own leader and chancellor when they try to attribute inflation to Ukraine.

Or she's about to call a GE. Which they might want to do while there's still the slightest glimmer of a chance of them being the opposition. There’s a thought. It could be very interesting if the Tories sank so low that the SNP became the official opposition. Although, can you imagine Ian Blackford at PMQs? For that to happen, the Lib Dems would have to smash the blue wall and so be the second biggest party. That really would be wonderful, but never going to happen

It's very Trump-esque and quite insulting that she feels people would lap this up. She must think we're thick.

You've seen him and heard him. The SNP are a joke He speaks very well and regularly tore Boris a new arsehole every week. He's very entertaining and quite witty in how he delivers his points, but he really is an excellent public speaker and very sharp. Liz Truss will dysfunction and go into overdrive if she has to debate him.

Which begs the question: was Hunt appointed by the dark forces in that video or by some in the Tory Party who don't want the ultra-liberal ideals they stand for? We'll soon know when Hunt delivers his updated austerity package at the end of the month. He has choices... hit the workers or impose windfall taxes on those who fund those who have pushed Truss into power. OS.

Hitting the most vulnerable in society those on benefits the disabled and the elderly that's what this government stand for while looking after the rich benefits last year went up by 3 % with food prices running at between 10 and 15% this has seen a massive effect on those that can ill afford it
today is the usual day that the inflation rate is used to calculate benefits but the government wont commit to that so one year of benefit cuts in real terms effecting the most vulnerable
we have todays inflation rate at 10.1 % and food prices rising at 14% this would mean a rise in benefits of approximate £7 this could be a lifeline but the government dont care as long as the rich get there tax cuts
the tory party the caring party they care only about themselves and the rich remember this at the next election

We'll soon know when Hunt delivers his updated austerity package at the end of the month. He has choices... hit the workers or impose windfall taxes on those who fund those who have pushed Truss into power. OS. What I've never been able to reconcile was this preoccupation with tax cuts. The voter intention survey which has been running for years has never shown any appetite for tax cuts and less spending on public services. Even during Austerity 1.0 the majority of UK voters wanted same taxation same spending. During the leadership campaign the UK figures were about a third (34%) wished taxes and spending on public services remained at current levels, 26% thought there should be an increase in tax to increase funding. Only 22% said that taxes should be reduced and less spent on public services. Even among those who voted Conservative at the last election 41% said they wanted to see levels remain as they are now, 27% wanted to see a cut in taxes and 22% want to see an increase. The low tax "more money in my pocket" fixation isn't even a widely held Tory belief.
