Absolutely, no coincidence that a Labour MP has the whip suspended and the £ starts to rocket. The entire nation should be grateful we have Kwasi at the wheel. The OBR, the IMF, even No. 10 this evening, none of them have a clue. Higher mortgage rates? 24 hours in a day for all these communists to work. Truss-ted to deliver ✅

Because the markets are convinced that they've finally accepted their mistake and they're going to have to u-turn. Loving the idea that someone who thought Kwarteng's speech was one of the finest in the Commons for quite some time is now enjoying the recovery of the pound, which is due to the fact that the markets think that Truss and Kwarteng are going to abandon the majority of what was in that very speech

If the expected U-Turns materialise surely Karzi has to resign to retain even a glimmer of self respect. A head will obviously be demanded for this debacle and his is the less disruptive The Grandees will demand a safe pair of hands to reign in Liz's Stupidity I doubt Rishi would accept and it can't be that rent-a-quote nincompoop Chris Philp

German inflation hits 10% for the 1st time in 32 years ? Fortunately for them their Bond Yields are 2.35% and their €200B Energy Package didn't spook the Markets maybe because their Debt to GDP is well below 70% not over 100% What do you think?

Senior Conservatives are holding talks about replacing Liz Truss with a joint ticket of Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt as part of a “coronation” by MPs. One senior Tory told The Times: “A coronation won’t be that hard to arrange. In 2019 candidates needed eight MPs to get on the ballot paper. This year they needed 20. Next time it will be however high it needs to be for only one candidate to clear it.” They predicted a pact between Sunak, who lost to Truss in the members’ ballot, and Mordaunt, who finished third in the leadership contest, would have the support of an overwhelming majority of Conservative MPs. Around “20 to 30” former ministers and senior backbenchers are attempting to find a way for a “council of elders” to tell Truss to quit. “Conversations are stepping up,” said one former minister. Another MP added: “Rishi’s people, Penny’s people and the sensible Truss supporters who realise she’s a disaster just need to sit down together and work out who the unity candidate is. It’s either Rishi as prime minister with Penny as his deputy and foreign secretary, or Penny as prime minister with Rishi as chancellor. They would promise to lead a government of all the talents and most MPs would fall in behind that.”

Are the ERG and those right wing Brexiteers who have engineered the make up of both the current PM and her cabinet going to just slope away quietly with their tail between their legs? Will they fuck. The Tories are a completely split party of arrogant, self serving fuckers who couldn't give two shits about common, working people and they now want to change PM (after just six weeks) AGAIN? Their arrogance appears to have no bounds, with absolutely zero respect for the people of the UK. If they feel they have no choice but to change the PM again, then FFS let the country decide who it should be.

In addition, how much of a pointless, out of touch, waste of space must you be to be a member of the Conservative party? Given that they chose Truss, how many of them will resign their membership? Will any of them really care about their original choice if the polls recover, since having the "correct" side in power is all that really matters presumably. If the parliamentary party does anoint Mordaunt and Sunak, watch the membership vote to endorse them, having resoundingly rejected the pair of them along with the parliamentary party just weeks before. Fucking idiots!

Fucking idiots! Today's Telegraph seems to think the membership are not to be trusted in choosing a new leader if Truss gets the boot, although they pretend there is no "stomach" for another contest and election! I suspect the reality is that the MPs don't want the membership to choose another clown to lead the party, which begs two questions: first, what's the point of being a member (other than a nice, cosy conference hall for a snooze) and second, wasn't it the MPs themselves who narrowed it down to Truss and Sunak in the first place? Hardly a ringing endorsement of their own judgement, is it!

How hard must the Tory press office and compliant newspaper editors be working at the moment, trying to come up with some scandal to smear the opposition with?
Even the Sturgeon detest the Tories comment died as soon as it got mentioned. Not even the slightest deflection away from the farce at the centre of government.
I wonder what they're digging around on at the moment?

Not going to get the Sun readers frothing at the mouth over any of that.

Just stuck £25 on that. It would have been a lot more if it did actually say GONE this year but 'replaced' would suggest it pays out at the end of a leadership contest, unless I'm interpreting it incorrectly. Yeah, could be an issue. Although you'd think they'd have to have a very truncated contest, probably cutting out the membership completely if they could. So 10 or 11 weeks still seems a long time if they could have some kind of coronation. Hard to see who would fit the bill for them though Now 9/4 m.skybet.com/politics/liz-truss-specials/event/30221471

There is a position in Chess called Zugswang which means its your move and your opponent has put you in a situation although not checkmate any move you make will put you in a worse position You have to choose the least worst option for your next move Liz has been fully "Zugswanged"

For fuck sake - I've just got an email from Her Majesty's Government congratulating me on my conscription to the position of Chancellor of the Exchequor. Wish me luck!
On the brightside though there's a letter on the desk stating 'I'm afraid there is no money; loads of beak in the top and middle drawer though!' so at least the weekend might be a winner before the real work starts.
