Quite right there is already more than enough for everyone to have a decent share.
i dont mind everybody having a decent share of the pot as long as everybody puts the same effort in creating the pot .
"Same effort" Who works a harder a minimum wage carer in an old peoples home or a banker crunching numbers for a living?

GDP is not the same as wealth. Isn’t that the precise problem with the “growth, growth, growth” strategy? I don’t care if GDP rises because the biggest 100 companies here are doing well. I want to see the poor getting richer and inequality decreasing as a result. Sadly as I suspect you already know. The Institute for Economic Affairs (an influential lobby group) behind the Truss Kwarteng strategy are on record, even on YouTube in person, stating; "Inequality is irrelevant "Inequality is good Tufton Street has no interest in such things. Neither it seems does HMG.

Always enjoyed the fact that, during the pandemic, "key workers" were the ones we relied on to keep society going and made ourselves feel better about by having a nice round of applause for, while paying them some of the lowest salaries. You don't hear the term key workers so much these days now they actually want pay rises which reflect the cost of living....funny that...

If we downed-tools (or laptops), it’d probably be several weeks before most people even noticed; it certainly wouldn’t precipitate the collapse of civilised society. The real problem with that is it’s the bullshit jobs that pay the higher salaries. Many hoped that when Covid was over, the experience would've prompted some kind of a reset in the way we think about who’s worth what to society, and that we’d start to recognise and reward people for the contribution they make. It was never going to happen, was it? Once again our lords and masters use every device at their disposal to try to persuade us that they really are worth every penny, and everybody else has to fight over the crumbs.

Talking of key workers, I see that barristers have accepted a 15% pay rise offer from the government and, as such, will no longer be striking.
I wonder what people who drive trains and nurses will be offered, by way of comparison?

to be a bit facetious (sp ) apart from start and stop , what do train drivers do ?
how many nurses work and how many just turn up , speaking ( a lot ) from experience there are quite a few of the latter ( particularly night shifts ) .
and if you're gonna die in hospital it'll be at night or weekends , guarantee it .

There was a good article in yesterday's Observer which essentially said that activists like Jones and those similarly on "the Left" would be better off outside Labour in their own party under a PR system of representation, akin to Die Linke in Germany, which has a more moderate SDP taking the role of a more centre-left Labour party. Of course, PR needs to come first!

So you feel you've had it hard and lash out at others who you feel have an easy ride... and you're including nurses in this column of "shirkers".

So you work hard, and perhaps don’t get paid what your hard work deserves (hence working 6 days a week and a second jobs for more money in the evenings). So why are you a fan of a system that rewards hedge fund managers every week more than most earn in a year, and all they are doing is moving money around. Shouldn’t your anger be directed at the hedge fund managers making millions betting against the British economy rather than nurses who work very long hours (including night shifts which are proven to shorten your life expectancy) for comparatively not much pay. Hedge fund managers got much more than a 10% pay rise off the back of Kwarteng and Truss crashing the pound, I can tell you. And they don’t need the 10% pay rise. Most nurses could really do with it.

Because the right, and their client media, put an awful lot of work into getting ordinary working class people like phileetin to blame other ordinary working class people, along with migrants, asylum seekers, benefits fraudsters etc for all the woes of the country. Alongside that, they work equally hard at making sure ordinary working class people look up to the royals, the landed gentry and the rich and don't question too hard whether things could actually be done more fairly, more equitably.

In the end though it’s his opinion and he’s entitled to it whether you agree with it or not without getting a hard time. Right or wrongly I think there’s general perceptions of the 2 parties Tories - Give to the rich and take from the poor Labour - Take from the rich and give to the poor and those that don’t work and can. What we need is a party that gives to the hard working whether it’s physical and those that make money for others to benefit. Symplistic i guess.
