The way things are going, a long hot summer may trigger rioting. I imagine Priti Patel is licking her chops at the very thought of being able to condemn and sound tough about it, while remaining completely oblivious to being part of the cause of it... All the lefty unwashed on the streets? Waving union placards....Great

Just out of interest, are you guaranteed anonymity as a member of the public when arrested on suspicion of rape? I'd hate to think there were different rules for MPs to the rest of us. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61490957

Actually, I think everyone probably should be guaranteed anonymity on a whole raft of charges until found guilty, on the basis that if you throw enough mud some of it inevitably sticks (which is basically what the Daily Mail was doing over a fortnight with Starmer), but the point is not having different rules for MPs (or anyone else) compared to ordinary members of the public.

Anonymity should be given in most cases untill found guilty otherwise you could be tried twice once by the media and once by the court
Look at the high profile celebrity cases charged then found innocent only to have their careers destroyed same can be said for members of the public

Michael FabriCunt is an odious toad This is his actual tweet I am expecting a strong turnout of Conservative MPs at Prime Minister's Questions today. Not only to demonstrate their strong support for #Boris (!!). BUT also to prove they are NOT the one told by the Chief Whip to stay at home. Raising tax thresholds does not address the major problem here we have millions on benefits who got a massive cut in real terms with inflation at double figures they got 3.1 % they are the ones most vulnerable yet the government did nothing you can say oh well they got 150 but millions haven't as they can't afford or dont pay by direct debit They are the ones suffering but what do you care after all your other posts defending the indefensible action of the Tory Its about time you showed some compassion but I dpnt think you have one of in you

It's an incredibly efficient way of putting money into the hands of people that need it most.

Better to cut all the green levies / taxes and offer tax incentives to companies who will develop new cleaner energy sources, green hydrogen seems to have some money going into it.

You are not up to speed with current case law. The Supreme Court made a decision earlier this year that defendants have a right to anonymity up to the point they are charged. This Guardian article provides more detail: Bloomberg loses landmark UK supreme court case on privacy. So, different rules are not being applied to this minister.

It is, but every little helps. It works out to be about the same as the windfall tax would bring to each household. Maybe a we bit more. Cutting the green tax levies would help even more! although i'm not sure everyone would agree!

Why is inflation higher here than the rest of the G7? This excellent article says why: www.theguardian.com/business/2022/may/18/why-uk-highest-inflation-g7-ukraine-covid-brexitFirstly, our government isn’t doing much to combat it. Whereas France have a 4% cap on energy prices Italy has a windfall tax on oil and gas providers Spain and Portugal are capping gas prices Germany have reduced fuel duty by 30 cents compared with our 5p Spain and Begium have cut VAT on energy bills, something Johnson told us couldn’t happen in the EU (he lied) We have increased tax on workers. Secondly, brexit accounts for a 6% increase to food prices, as we import so much of it. The slumping pound doesn’t help as that increases food imports prices. Thirdly, brexit has led to staff shortages, which means higher competition and wages, and so companies must charge more for goods and services which increases inflation. Pay growth at 4.2% is good news, but not if inflation is at 9%! Fourthly, covid and the Ukraine war. But that isn’t unique to us and impacts everyone. The take home: brexit is costing us a lot, as is the fact our government are unwilling to introduce measures that other governments are doing to protect against high inflation.
