Is this government actually trying to look as corrupt and incompetent as possible Sunak has just been on Sky claiming that we (the government) will CONTINUE to cooperate FULLY with the inquiry. Continue, fully? How stupid do you think the British public actually is? You've just announced that you're going to go to court in a blatant attempt NOT to cooperate with the inquiry fully. Yes Prime Minister never got anywhere near this ridiculousness! Sunak showing himself to be just as corrupt as Johnson, with the same view that he is above the law. A great solution to this is for the inquiry to ask for the unredacted documents directly from Johnson, as he has said he will hand them over.

There won't be any Covid revelation or a smoking gun on deaths. They are way more concerned what a bunch of infighting inbreds they will look when it hits the papers how much they hate each other. It kills any hopes of a GE win that's the only reason for the injunction.

It’s interesting that Grant Shapps, a senior cabinet minister, has said the inquiry should get whatever it asks for. Certainly not towing the government line!

Thing is Baroness Hallett has got the highest security clearance in the land, she's not going to go to the Daily Mail and reveal personal information from MP's as a result of seeing all the WhatsApp messages. The claim from the government, that they must protect MP's from having their personal messages getting into the public domain, is quite clearly bullshit, they are blatantly attempting to hide stuff from the inquiry. The very fact that they are refusing to hand over the data unredacted, makes it even more important that they actually do. I have a feeling that the government are going to lose on this and if they do, Sunak surely has to immediately render his resignation.

It kills any hopes of a GE win that's the only reason for the injunction. That was my thoughts too, Andy. Possibly some messages saying "to hell with regulations, just get PPE" which pisses on their claim that due processes were followed, but a shedload more saying what a useless wanker Hancock is and how Sunak's being a twat in the Treasury, invites to Johnson's parties etc etc when they were all pretending to be pulling together for the good of the country. The facade will fall away. Trouble is, what's worse? Looking like the lying frauds that most people, these days, can see them for or being laughed at for being some kind of Pythonesque clownfest being sued by their own inquiry!? Someone once said being hated in politics is fine, some people will always hate what you do, but being laughed at is when you're finished. I think that's where we are with these.

Let's remember that this is just WhatsApp messages too. Any sensible drug dealer is using apps such as wickr and telegram or burner phones.
You'd imagine some politicians would be either savy or paranoid enough to do the same. Stuff that can't be retrieved so easily.
The other thing is I swear it's just messages between certain individuals they've asked for. Makes you wonder just how bad these messages are.
What happens if the lady investigating comes across something irrelevant to the inquiry which is also law breaking. Does she just ignore it as she's not investigating that and it may be irrelevant or does she have a duty to report it.

Absolutely spot on, for too long UK political discussion on this subject has simply been an escalating we can be tougher than you. Totally agree, the average reading age in UK prisons is apparently 11 years, no wonder some struggle in the outside world. Better than those in the workplace then… Average UK reading age is apparently 9 years old: www.ascento.co.uk/blog/are-you-aware-of-how-literate-your-employees-are#:~:text=Readability%20data%20suggest%20that%20the,a%209%2Dyear%2Dold. “Readability data suggest that the average reading age of the UK population is 9 years – that is, they have achieved the reading ability normally expected of a 9-year-old.”

Any chance of seeing Whatsapp message's from Boris' time in hospital. From deaths door to not giving a shit about (all be it total bollocks) social distancing and gathering rules.

I only knew it was considered to be 9 because we have to position things at work for that age level. It may well be one of those things that was said once and then everyone took it as gospel. I suspect it would be easier to gather the details for those in prison as opposed to the whole country so it may well be a fallacy.

It wouldn’t shock me if some of the discrepancy lay across age groups. By and large, prisoners are young and male. Young people have been exposed to a higher standard of education in the last generation. Before that, people dropped out early more often at an early age (both of my parents left school when they were about 14 to get jobs). I reckon that a significant amount of those with poorer reading skills may fall in that category. However, the disadvantage is not the same. By and large, you compete with your peers for work. That said, I haven’t found a lot of data to back up this theory. I think it’s harder to find information on average reading age by generation than it is actual illiteracy rates (which are consistently low across the board). However, I do think that more emphasis is put on school metrics now than before and you do often hear that more and more of a generation are going to University.
