It has been turned into a money making machine for mostly non UK corporations and private equity funds.

I was among the millions of early investors who made a modest amount of money on this scam Thatcher needed a successful Privatisation to prove her stupidity ideology was sound. The share offering was oversubscribed by 6 times and gained 40% on the day it was listed, Free Money. Her idea was that England would become a Nation of Shareholders instead the small investors like me cashed out early and Institutional Investors, mostly foreign bought up the shares over a short period of time. It was a leveraged buyout of the shares and the money they borrowed is still owed today. There has been no attempt to pay down the debt which would leave room for investment in infrastructure. Instead vast amounts of money have been paid out in dividends Under normal circumstances the Balance Sheet of these Companies would be viewed as unsound but the whole shitshow is underpinned by being a Monopoly and able to charge extortionate fees to its customers while polluting the rivers and streams in their area. The final insult is that the sector is a self regulating service because the useless and underfunded regulator Ofwat do not have the resources/budget to initiate preemptive checking of water and sewerage but rather rely on the Water Companies themselves to notify Ofwat of a breach or contamination

a day of reckoning will arrive one day, and i think it will cause a total implosion of our current political system. these pricks have bled us dry in our darkest moments, and our now trying to prevent us from knowing about it. I'd like to think you're right, but will it really? While you have more than half of the UK press supporting these charlatans, encouraging people not to question their place in society too deeply and reinforcing the sanctity of royalty so that people are seemingly more interested in speculating about tittle tattle like the Schofield nonsense, what is more likely to happen? The implosion of our political system or a redoubling of their efforts so that enough people simply shrug, turn a blind eye, fixate on trivia or say they're all the same anyway. I'd suggest the latter. Eventually, someone is going to decide that chucking orange dye around, driving into Downing St gates, booing Boris Johnson or being arrested for legitimate protest isn't enough any more and things will get direct and unpleasant. Perhaps that's what you meant by a total implosion of our political system? I was assuming you meant a switch to a more democratic system? I'd hate to see the violence that would result from more direct action, but you couldn't avoid the conclusion that they'd brought it on themselves.

The water companies are still regional monopolies. If I'm disgruntled with Severn Trent, I have zero choice but to get water from them. So the gravy train runs perpetually.

And now it's us that's going to have to pay to fix it! How anybody could ever have voted Tory is completely beyond me. They are there for one purpose only, to fuck the little man and make their mates even richer.

Far be it for me to defend these bunch of idiots but the original mistake was getting rid of the capacity to store Gas making it impossible to take advantage I don't think you are defending them. The government were complicit in the decision to close Rough in 2017, Truss was heavily involved in it's closure. And 12 months after such a stupid decision, this 'bunch of idiots' ignored vital advice and proclaimed that it was best to leave it to the markets to sort out! www.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-gas-exclusive-idUKKBN1GV187LONDON (Reuters) - Britain has rebuffed calls from the gas industry for an urgent review of the country’s gas storage capacity after a cold snap this month triggered warnings of supply shortages and gas prices spiked to their highest in at least a decade. The government says it is up to the market to determine whether it makes sense to invest in new gas storage and if there are any supply shortages, prices will rise sufficiently to attract more gas from elsewhere. “There is still a level of complacency in the government that despite recent events the best course of action is to just accept these price shocks,” said Clive Moffatt of consultancy Moffatt Associates, who attended the meeting and represents several storage developers and industry associations. Utility company Centrica CNA.L closed Rough in June saying it had become too costly to maintain the 30-year-old offshore site, leaving Britain with storage capacity equivalent to four to five days of winter demand, down from 15 days previously.

As you knew Paul it was tongue in cheek To compound the stupidity UK has some of the largest facilities to convert LNG and has imported huge amounts from Qatar (due to Ukraine war) etc to supply mainland Europe who do have storage capacity Mr Coke includes this in his reviews to support Brexit as exports to EU You couldn't make some of this shit up.

I don’t know why Roman Reigns would be among the right people to decide UK civil servants but it would liven things up I suppose.

This is almost word for word a reprise of a story the Express ran when Priti Patel was attempting to introduce the Rwanda policy It is still an offence in this Country to induce or order someone to break the law The "I was only following orders " defence went out of fashion more than 75 years ago

Just where is the joined up thinking from the Government here? They say that they want to reduce immigration and also that they want to cut waiting times for patients but yet ... They say a lot of things and some people open up and swallow it whole... 35,000 illegal arrivals last year, 2022, of whom about 75% will be considered refugees and allowed to stay. So that's about 25,000. 600,000 legal immigrants last year, 2022, (that's net - over 1.1 million in reality, minus the 550,000 who left). Every one of whom the government could have said no to. Our borders, our rules, remember. Instead...Stop the Boats. Let's shit ourselves about boats. Albanian migrants want to kill Kate then reduce your house price and stop you getting a doctors appointment.... Why folk fall for this guff is beyond me!

This governor blames the civil service time and again for its own failings and inadequacies.

But not ones that might make people learn that both myself and Boris Johnson are corrupt incompetents who should be nowhere near public life. We don't want anyone to learn that lesson.

I wonder if the Covid inquiry will address the elephant in the room - were the absurdly draconian measures necessary? Of course it won't. A total waste of space of an inquiry that won't even consider the collateral damage of lockdowns.
