The Major government 1992 to 1997 was a shocker Appalling financial policies, scandal after scandal, endless rows v Europe This current period feels like both of Major's governments, 1990-92 and 92-97 rolled into one! The first part because it feels like how people responded to a modernising Labour Party when Kinnock was in charge following Foot ie the years leading up to 1992, not especially convinced by him but better than what was in charge before! The second part 92-97 is when Major's govt really fell apart with all the sleaze and corruption and absence of any ideas. That is very familiar! We'll have to see if the election result is the same. Long way to go yet. I wouldn't be surprised by a hung parliament. I think you were right first time, this is the worst government we've had since the war. Yes there were some right arseholes in Major's cabinets but we saw nothing like the incompetence, lack of integrity and personal greed and corruption that we've had since Johnson got into number 10.

Good grief, she's not gone and done it again! 🤦♂️ What was it? "Three hundred thousand thirty four, nine hundred and seventy four thousand tests carried out in the UK". Or something similar. And to think it's not long ago that this woman was actually Home Secretary of the United Kingdom. It's absolutely unfathomable how such a clown got anywhere near a seat of power.

I really don’t like her and there’s a lot of things that she has said (over and over) and policies that she has championed that are just detestable. However, I doubt she meant UK. (At least, I hope she didn’t). The same way as she made a mess of quoting some number or another, it’s funny to laugh at but shouldn’t be there to judge someone on. You get one chance to say something on a podium. It’s easy to make a simple error.

For an ignored corner of the country Staffordshire is doing a great job of ruining the rest of the UK.
We’ve got Euro Nutter Bill Cash (Stone), incompetent psycho nutter Gavin Williamson (staffs south), racist psycho nutter (stoke north) - Jonathan Ghoul-ish. The general weirdo for Lichfield - M. Fabricant. The sex pest for Tamworth, Chris Pincer. Pull the ladder up Patel went to Keele, Johnson’s enabler Lee Cain went to Stoke Uni.
We may be going down but we’re taking the rest with us!

Oh I judged her a long time ago and it certainly wasn't based on her public speaking prowess but if she can't even manage to do the basics, then I feel comfortable in questioning how she got anywhere the role she was given.

Patel was a notorious idiot when at Keele and studying law.
Her vacuous, opportunistic, grasping self-delusion makes her ideal for the modern Tory party.

However, she's a classic example of the triumph of confidence over competence, ambition over ability, primary stage Dunning Kruger in full effect. As home secretary, in addition to having a bizarre inability with some rudimentary numbers, she spent one visit banging on about how tough she'd be on counter-terrorism offenders. Counter-terrorism, ffs! She's inept as well as politically unpleasant.

That’s exactly me as a disillusioned Tory supporter. The problem for me is the alternative looks almost as bleak. How is it possible to say that? Labour under Starmer has never been in power. How can you say with any certainty whatsoever that under a Starmer government, the redistribution of wealth from the poor and middle to the rich and connected will be anything like we have seen under the tories, particularly during Johnson’s leadership. They are not all the same. The tories have ruined almost everything possible to ruin in this country. How can you possibly assume the same will continue being the case under Labour? There is simply no evidence to back up your point of view, save for the narrative painted by tory controlled press. I am saying this as someone who has never voted labour and who won’t be at the next election either. Starmer is a man of no real conviction or ideas and rarely if ever makes statements of what Labour would do if they came to power and all he ever does is call out the Tories with a black is white type statements.

The trouble with the current system is nobody is going to make any manifesto pledge until the 4 week period of a GE starts. The other parties just strategise their responses years in advance otherwise and the public have an attention span of a few weeks. Anything that is said now is a waste of breath. Sunaks 5 pledges are in tatters and he's in government and just lost 1000+ councillors. Any opposition party has no real view of what the world looks like in 18 months. Until then one can only judge on broad principles.

Boris made lots of statements, very few of them contained any semblance of truth. The Tory's still bang on about when Labour were last in power! After 13 years in power themselves! I'm no fan of Starmer but I can see why he doesn't say much about what he'd do when PM, he doesn't need to, might as well just let this bunch continue to prove themselves to be probably the most corrupt, inept government we've had in recent times.
