I am after one or two. If anybody knows where to get the best quality ones around the area let me know. Hole size doesnt really matter as long as an average size gets in. I've been having a few birds in my garden and thought it would be a good idea to sort them a place to go

Boxes are of course available in a variety of sizes and colours these days, the hole size can vary depending on what will be flying in and out of course. Perhaps some research in the field before committing yourself to one particular type. Hope you find what you're looking for.

She's an expert on bird's boxes, especially ones with a slightly tighter than average hole.

You make sure there is enough space for your fat balls to swing underneath a lack of fresh air can result in all sorts of unwanted vermin.

Put out fresh water for them in a Wedgwood oatmeal bowl every day. Also, lay on a nice buffet of seedmix and dried worms from Home Bargains (cheap, no pun intended) for them. Do it regularly, you'll get loads even in a back yard up Cobridge, when they expect it they'll keep coming back for more.

A word to the wise, Black Bird Boxes tend to have a large flange. It's essential you have the right equipment for optimum performance! Good advice, you sound experienced That's very perceptive of you. As it happens my experiences have proved that some birds quite like dirt. Perhaps an idea is to have not one but two boxes next to each other, one standard box and the other a dirt box. When you have enticed a bird into your premises she can choose which box to be entered. It may be prudent to ask said bird the following question..... Ast thee got thee brown wings?

Once you have sited the bird box you need to get a CCTV set up to watch activity around the hole especially when they are going in and out.

I've been having a few birds in my garden and thought it would be a good idea to sort them a place to go Bit late in year to attract them to nest. Will be ok for next year. Ones with square opening usually for Blackbirds and Robins, small holed ones for tits and sparrows.

It's a good time of year for woodcock, but I'm not sure you can get boxes big enough for them. As long as you've got a few big bushes in your garden I think they'll be happy though.
