West Virginia Republicans have submitted a bill to reject the election if a Democrat wins. "That, the State of West Virginia will not recognize any election of the Democrat candidate for President during the 2024 election cycle if the Republican presidential or vice-presidential candidate is assassinated, seriously injured during an assassination attempt, incarcerated, de facto eliminated or barred from the ballot in any states, or is the subject of legal actions that preclude their effective campaigning;" Basically Trump must be above the law and cannot have any consequences for his crimes, or this group of elected Republicans are saying they will burn down US democracy. Because they will say any "legal action" against trump precludes his campaigning. This really is an election over whether the US wants to remain more free to choose its leaders, or to install a Supreme Leader who can only be removed by The Party. Now correct me if I'm wrong here but didn't multiple democratic states remove Trump from the electoral role a while back and have to be told to put him back on it. Or did I just dream about that. I do have weird dreams to be fair... |

The difference of course being that Trump is a criminal who tried an insurrection, and the 14th Amendment specifically bans insurrectionists from being president. While West Virginia argues that Trump should be above the law and if the law goes after a republican criminal then any Democratic candidate who wins the election should be refused. |

Is he ahead in key states? - Not been paying too much attention to it Yeah the polls have tightened in all the swing states, and Trump is now leading in a few of them and tied in a couple of others. The races often tighten in close elections as Nov 5th nears, but I think it's because the Democrat campaign took their foot off the gas a bit. They came out of the gates clowning on Trump and the GOP, correctly brandishing them as weird and unfit and going hard on offense - which was resonating with voters. After she smashed him at the debate they toned down the attacks and went into quiet mode for a few weeks. Doing that has ceded all the political space to Trump and he's taken that wide-open opportunity, turned up the crazy racist and fascist rhetoric to levels even he hasn't gone to before and has been dominating the news cycles and setting the narrative since. Democrats are now having to play by his rules again. In a normal, sane country the shit Trump is saying and doing would guarantee he'd go down in the polls, but America isn't normal or sane and instead he's going up in them. There's also a massive problem in US media where Kamala is held to far higher standards while Trump is sanewashed all the time so the people who don't pay attention to politics aren't seeing the worst of him. Also the top two issues this election are immigration and the economy, and the Republicans have a massive advantage on both. Reality gets a bit messed up there because most Americans incorrectly believe they're in a recession, when actually the economy is the strongest it's ever been. Dems are getting punished for the cost of living hikes - though to be fair to them it was mostly caused by factors out of their control (covid + ukraine) and Biden engineered the best post-covid recovery in the world. Republicans have been banging the immigration drum for so long despite there being no actual migrant crime epidemic, migrants committing crimes at a much lower rate than citizens and the large majority of fentanyl being brought across the border is actually by US citizens. There definitely was way too many migrants coming in across the border in 2022-23 though which is something the Democrats can't really explain away - except they did try to pass the most aggressive bipartisan border security bill in US history but the Republicans killed that because Trump wanted to run on the issue. Essentially it comes down to most voters want prices to come down and the border dealt with (which they think Trump will be able to somehow magically do both immediately) and so a lot of voters seem to be willing to look past the fact Trump is a fucking terrible human being. I don't think enough people are aware of or take seriously the threat he's posing with another term. There are no guard rails in place this time because he's moulded the entire party in his image, filling it with MAGA loyalists only and the Supreme Court decided that President's arguably now have full immunity from crimes they commit while in office. And let's not forget he's been found liable for rape and fraud, is a convicted criminal on 34 counts and has three other seperate criminal trials pending and literally tried to steal the last election with a fake elector scheme (of which most other people involved have been found guilty already or have pleaded guilty) and then when that didn't work he led an inserruction on the Capitol! Yet he's still got a 50% chance of winning next month. It's completely incomprehensible. He should already be in prison, nevermind being allowed to run again. In conclusion - America is nuts and if he wins again they're fucked - and the knock on effects around the world will change everything |

Trump claimed there was 100,000 people at this rally, one of his supporters reckoned there were 20 coaches then later corrected this to 50-60 coaches.
Even if there was 60 coaches, if all 100,000 used them each coach would have to do around 33 trips.
At half an hour per trip 🤔
If he managed this it's even more impressive than that other son of God who merely pissed about with some fish and bread 😃

The bookies don't set odds based on probabilities - they base odds on maximising profits. In a two horse race if one of the horses is receiving the bulk of the bets they will lower the odds in order to payout less regardless of whether the horse is more likely to win or not. Trump's odds might be lower simply because Republicans are more likely to gamble than Democrats, not because he is more likely to win. |
