This attempted assignation shows how gun control needs to end - if the rooves had been armed this wouldn't have happened 😂 Seriously will this change his policy on gun control? 😯 Not a chance that gun control changes.

I suppose some NRA advocate will argue that if the whole crowd had AR15s someone would have picked him off. Of course the opposite is true also and everyone would be a potential threat

Not a chance that gun control changes. I suppose some NRA advocate will argue that if the whole crowd had AR15s someone would have picked him off. Of course the opposite is true also and everyone would be a potential threat I agree. However, at this stage there are so many guns in the country that I don’t know how they would achieve removing them anyways. I can’t imagine Republican law enforcement agents risking their lives to take guns once legally owned away from people who refuse to sell them back. Fear has always been America’s biggest weakness. Fear of losing a fist fight: have a knife and gun at the ready. Fear of irrelevance: invade a country each generation. I love this country and will be proud to be called an American after swearing my Oath in a couple of weeks but it absolutely has issues.

Farage is gutted he's not part of the show, so true to form, he's already leaving his MP duties and constituents behind, by flying to the US later in the week to see his friend.
He must be absolutely kicking himself he chose to run for clacton right now.

Leaving the politics slightly aside....Trump is lucky to be alive , perhaps an inch away....I wonder how the attempted murder /assassination will affect him. I think it might depend upon the character of the person. In Trump's case I think his "skyrocketing" bravado/confidence will go off the scale.....welcome superman.
I often consider how small things and small differences can change lives. I have vivid memories of three clear events in my life that could have gone a different way.

There could be a time when after the initial shock reality hits and he can realise how close to death he was. There may be a trigger (no pun intended) in the future that sets his anxiety through the roof and could potentially stop him going out in public. Time will tell I guess.

Sometimes people who’ve always come across as tough as old boots can melt and can’t cope. The brains a complicated thing.

What does seem a little strange or negligent to me .....before any controversial politician gives a speech or rally you would have thought the guards would have assessed the area for any vantage point that would give a direct line to the podium and occupied it. I'm going for negligence. Indeed, if it is negligence, then it's on an utterly staggering scale, bordering on the incredible. Thinking back to previous assassination attempts, very often, the target would be moving, so it would almost be impossible to ascertain where a strike might come from exactly. Kennedy in the car, Bobby in the kitchen, Reagan getting into the car etc. But the security services knew exactly where Trump was going to be standing and knew exactly for how long he was going to be standing there. So why then, weren't all the surrounding roofs covered, even at least with drones monitoring them? It seems absolutely unbelievable that such an easy site to secure, could in actual fact end up being so poorly secured. Ignore the calls of an 'inside job' in the tweets but listen to the account of the guy in the red cap. If he's telling the truth and I can see no reason why he wouldn't be, then his statement is utterly mind-boggling.

If its true, its just unbelievable that the shooter wasn't dealt with beforehand. The whole thing has made trump almost invincible now.

Indeed, that's my point, if you can see past the conspiracy allegations, then the failure of the security services is absolutely monumental. If the crowd can actually video the shooter before he even starts shooting, then why haven't the security services got eyes on him?

If he'd been stood next to him yes he could have been killed - just as you or I could if we'd been stood next to him. Why mention it? Didn't the original post tell you that? Had he not stood for Clacton he would have been on the campaign trail with Trump and could plausibly have been stood next to him (unlike you or I who would not be in that position). Which is why I referenced 'Sliding Doors' (popular 90's film starring Gwyneth Paltrow). So I would have thought it was bleeding obvious why I mentioned it. Why are you making an issue of it?

Because it followed on from a post about Farage and as is often the case with social media posts become sequential. So we have the plausability (Farage was set to go on the campaign trail with Trump, so statistically the possibility of it being him would be far higher than 'just anyone') we have sequenciality providing the prompt (social media) and we have the popular cultural reference to a 'Sliding Doors' moment (where a split decision could make your life go one way or another). Like I said I would have thought it was bleeding obvious. But to you it's obviously something different - .......which I'll leave with you. As for the insult - well that's for Bercow

I'll leave it with you then Paul No, it'd be polite of you to explain what you meant. You asked SB why he had mentioned Farage and I knew that you didn't have a TV, so probably wouldn't have seen him doing the news rounds today, where he has been saying that if he hadn't won in Clacton he would have been with Trump yesterday. So I provided you a link to him saying as much in reply to your specific question and I left no comment. In what way did my post to you warrant the snotty reply that you replied with?
