Cranson, Overson & Sergei couldn't lace Wollschied's boots. Is that a joke pugs I must of missed those seasons where Vinnie, Cranny and Sergie helped us to consecutive top 10 PL finishes... All three of those were good players for Stoke in lower leagues. I'm glad we've got another CH in to replace him. Hopefully he meets the standard required by some people on here.

Weird thing about this deal is that we seemed to be short of bodies at CB and we've let both Wolly and Wilson go and only brought in one replacement. Best hope Ryan and Muniesa can stay fit.

Cameron is also an option. Should be enough to get us to January at least. Less players means more games and hopefully more consistency and better form. As seen with our strikers, trying to juggle between them has been to the detriment of the team performances. It looks now like we've at least got a first choice main striker and back 4. Now MH has to get a first choice midfield sorted.

I thought Wolly was a decent CB and would have had no problems if he had stayed, however it was clear at times that his lack of pace caused us problems and from what I've seen of Martins Indi he's pretty quick for a CB so hopefully he's an improvement in this area.

Pretty sure there are a few on here who will be be thinking Indi is an upgrade based on the fact he runs like a normal person Even with bringing Indi in I would have much preferred to keep Wolly as an actual centre half for when Ryan inevitably breaks down at some point this season All the best big man, your Anfield performance was a delight to watch Your main problem was that you weren't Robert Huth

You've got to think that this means that the management are pretty much 100% confident on Ryan's back then.

Blimey Paul, that has to be filed under either 'blind faith' or 'eternal optimism'.
That said, I really, really hope you're right.

You'd hope so wouldn't you Paul. Maybe its in my head but he still looks like he's protecting himself at times. Certainly missing a bit of his old athleticism.

In a few years time when someone mentions Wolly, I will remember him as the German who ran like a girl wore gloves and put in possible the worst CB performance I have ever seen against Sunderland. We have been blessed over the years with fabulous CBs... such as Shawcross, Smith, Cranson, Overson, Sergei and the Berlin Wall.....I am afraid Wolly is a very pale shadow of those titans. Cranson, Overson & Sergei couldn't lace Wollschied's boots. 😄😄😄😄 you've posted some shit over the years Pugs mate but that tops the league

Why are people panicking about back-ups if 'this or that' happen? It's the same all over the pitch, too. If this forum had its way we'd have 5 goalkeepers, 4 left backs, 6 centre halves, 4 right backs, 4 defensive midfielders, 4 attacking midfielders, 5 wingers & 5 strikers... And none of them can be 'deadwood', old, injured or lacking in form at any time. We've got Shawcross, this Indi fella, Cameron & Muniesa to cover the centre back positions. If we happen to have some mad injury crisis & they're all out at the same time then we'll have to give Sweeney or some other academy players a go... You know, that thing everyone keeps moaning about, us giving some youngsters a chance.

Opinions eh Anyone would think it was only Wollscheid playing in defence last season when we were losing 4-0 with the slatings he got on here He wasn't the biggest issue we had last season Maybe we were close with another CB late yesterday but the pizza sauce got stuck in the fax The point being, nobody bar Hughes and those involved know why we sent him out on loan, regardless of how long you spend in a bush/tree To think that the manager has purposefully weakened us at CB when we dont fully know Ryan's back situation, and cant rely on Muniesa to play a string of 10 games without his hamstring going is ludicrous, even for the oatcake

Wilson, for all his failings, could cover at CB and FB. Defence, unlike other areas of the pitch, has more than its fair share of injuries and suspensions.

Defence, unlike other areas of the pitch, has more than its fair share of injuries and suspensions. Why stop there? I mean, what if Pieters, Indi, Shawcross, Johnson, Bardsley & the two extra centre halves people want are all out injured? Shall we sign another two centre halves to cover the two centre halves who're covering the two centre halves we've got to cover our two centre halves? ...What if those two then get injured/suspended aswell?

No mate, I've posted far worse. Did Overson ever play top flight football anywhere? No mate he didn't but come on Vinny or Wollschied?😄 Vinny in gloves now there's a picture😄 So you've assumed that Overson is better than Wolly because he didn't wear gloves. He never ever played top flight football. I loved Vinny, but he made plenty of rickets as well, as is the want of a lower league defender.

Dont talk wet man,I was having a laugh about Vinny wearing gloves that's all.Agreed he made plenty of errors but he was a very good solid defender who played with heart and passion which fans loved about him.Wolly is a different character altogether and obviously someone who was aloof from his teammates but for me he was never good enough. All about opinions though Pugs which you well know
