Interesting looks a stocky chap in the Arnie mould It'll be interesting to see if he can play for the u18s in the cup. Greenidge really hasn't impressed me in it and when Verlinden is back fit he will have to play. But we don't really have another player to play wide, this may solve that! Also he seems like more of a striker who can play wide so if the lads in the 23s go on loan like we hope, we have the cover there. It sounds like a good bit of business.

As a nipper I just about remember our last (only?) FA Youth Cup Final against Everton when we lost 4-2 on aggregate (I was at the home leg when we lost 0-2), be nice to repeat the feat and go one better and win it. Off subject slightly but quite a few of our team for that tie went on to play XI team football although in the case of some I wish they hadn't bothered! 1. Richard Dawson 2. Terry Williams 3. Chris Hemming 4. Aaron Callaghan 5. Neil Howells 6. Steve Parkin 7. Neil Mountford 8. Kenny O'Neill 9. John Chapman 10. Dave Sutton 11. Roger Johns Sub. Graeme Shaw

Produce isn't quite right though is it, the players pushing hardest for a first team slot were all signed from other clubs. Despite having some talented local lads in the Academy, we still seem quite a way off producing a local Verlinden or N'goy. Hopefully it's something we'll start to see in the next couple of years.

Personally, this local lad thing does not bother me - if we develop a first teamer through the Academy, then he is one of ours. The Waddo days of a team based around Stoke lads are long gone - the world is our catchment area now, not Meir Aerodrome and Trubshaw Cross.

Which we are developing I think and their are some excellent players in the young groups. Tom Edwards in the 18s now is a very talented player too and local. So I think that has to be the way forward.

It'll always be a mix as well because the older lads 16 and above are no doubt quite willing to move countries and cities to have the best possible chance of succeeding. The life of a footballer is one of chop and change and moving around to different clubs and countries anyway. The world is now very small and things like budget airlines allow players from the continent to return home periodically. I think the thing to concentrate on is the English thing rather than local players. That's our responsibility as an academy in my opinion being local is a bonus.

It just needs to be a good weighted in favour of English players for the reasons you say in the second paragraph. I think we're bit too far to the other way but not too much.

He's got to be playing league football now surely? I'm getting the feeling he's just not going to make it with us, unfortunately.

Shenton off to wrexham is worrying.
Not progressed to the level we'd hope for. Mid table conference ffs

He's only 19 and clearly lacking in confidence.
If he can go there and do well it will be a great loan for him.
It's exactly what he needs.

At 19 I'd hope he'd be playing in league 1 or higher or making our bench and making sub appearances like N'Goy now is (whether this is on merit or due to the negligence of the manager in the CF department is another matter). He obviously had a setback with the death of his mother, but at 16/17 he was the shining light in our academy. He now barely gets a mention by anybody and there are a good 5/6 players it seems who are a lot closer to making an impact at first team level. Lets hope he goes there and sets the league alight!
