Pace, power, aggressive direct football. Direct football with a mixture of passing styles. The game is about scoring more goals than the opposition, entertainment is about getting people's backsides of their seats. Think you summed it up nicely, Sir!!!

Why is it always about long balls or tiki taka? I guess to mix this up must be perfect, but playing the ball sideways and backwards every time to make sure the oposition is in good balance is just as horrible as hoofing to me! Play the ball when you're protecting a lead, but when you are chasing a goal it's not the answer. I think Man City and Arsenal sort of sum this up, despite of all the quality they have, while Leicester are winning the league!

Thank god for the backpass rule - we would have had Jack B joining in too!
Get it bloody forward.
Loved Arnie's goal t'other week from the knockdown by Crouch - no fannying about there

Absolutely nothing wrong with the occasional long ball, but when it's played to excess it's as boring and negative a the endless sideways-and-backwards routine.
We need to shift the ball quicker, make space better once we get 10 yards past the halfway line and bring pace into the side.

The Stoke side that beat Liverpool 6-1 presumably wouldn't think Hughes is a bluffer who needs the sack and that long ball is sexy times for everyone either would they? Fair point.
Like I say for me as I said at the outset it isn't something based on recent results. I just don't particularly enjoy possession football full stop, I like the English up & at them approach more
its a shame that it ends up subverted into Pulis vs Hughes somehow :(
Absolutely incredible it's gone that way really, given the thread title...

So, this long ball game is the way to go then? Back to being in the bottom 2 of all four divisions in the 'goals for' column then? Great, can't wait for that...

I'm a fan of balanced attacks and clarity of strategy. When Crouch has been playing, we've been going to feet and knocking it around, yet surely the point of having Crouch on is to go more direct to goal and hold the ball up. Likewise, I find it amusing how we seem to cross the ball often when 5'7 Bojan is playing in the false 9 role.
When we play at our best, every player knows how to go forward, and for me our best attacking options are via quick wing play, and interhange with advanced midfielders.

Yes, if its combined with counterattack, well organized defence and work ethic its the most effective way of playing the game.

Like I said, it wasn't just a stoke thing - just I prefer more direct football with a big target man, pacy forward to run off him.
