Short fucking memories.

Long ball football is the most efficient way of playing the game.
Some folk think it is unpleasant on the eye.
However, it must be better than the turgid tip tap tripe we have witnessed since Christmas.

Honest question, not totally to do with recent results but do you, secretly, prefer it??
Personally, I have to say, when it's done well, give it me all day
All this fannying around at the back & pointless, going nowhere build up play??!!
Why does a defender need to pass sideways to another defender anyway?
Im no scholar of the game but I don't really get the thing for it, its passing for the sake of it and unless you're Barcelona does it really come off that often?
Its worked pretty well for Leicester (even though I fucking hate them)
I guess its why I have such fond memories of the Macari/Stein years. It makes me cringe when people say playing the 'right way' or even worse the 'Vale/Crewe way'
There isn't a 'right way' to play. the object is to put the ball in the net more often than the other lot. Anything else is pretty irrelevant
Is it just me stuck in the Neolithic times?? Given our recent efforts yes. Mind you we are bereft of pace and ideas so I doubt if it will work. Long ball Leicester style with pace and direct running yes please, with the squad of plodders we have not a chance, we have gone backwards instead of forwards and spent a hell of a lot of the clubs money in achieving failure.

You need the balance between a direct, aggressiveness, will to win as well as the flair and ability on top..you need a strong spine, and a solid defence then class in the final 3rd to win you games. For me, long ball short ball, the right ball, I don't care how we play as long as we win. More than that, I don't care how we play as long as we play as well as we can, getting as good a set of results as if possible and players play to their full potential as a result of the way we play. Look at Leicester or Atletico Madrid, would you rather playing "boring" football and put 11 men behind the ball but win the prem or reach a champions league final. Or would you rather play like Arsenal purists the "right" way but never reach you full potential? The right football is winning football.

Pretty even split
Most going for a mixing of styles; I would agree its that inability that seems to be costing us at the moment. Crouch isn't the option due to a lack of pace but long balls should be food 7 drink to Diouf
its crazy that a bunch of Trainspotting lookalikes & misfits from the east midlands have got us all going back to the drawing board and looking hard at ourselves.
I wonder how the likes of Fuller & Stein would have adapted to the Hughes pattern of play??

give me a Pulis competitive & physical edge with pressing football all day over pretty/unpretty slow paced posession football, all day every day. We're pushovers these days We never played a pressing game under Pulis. Ever. Everything was shape, two banks of four and challenging teams to play through us. Stop trying to re-write history. I think the Bolton side that glorious day in 2011 might disagree

People hated playing Stoke, a lot of teams were frightened of coming to the britannia and that was half the battle won, when Pundits say "it's difficult going to the Britannia" these days they could'nt be further from the truth', what about us frightens teams these days?

Does anyone actually enjoy watching defenders playing triangles?
I do think Macari was the master at getting it right but then again it was in lower divisions to be fair
Personally, Ive ALWAYS preferred more direct football, even before the Hughes era so its nothing to do with Pulis vs Hughes.

We're a mid table team without the real top quality players and an edge, there is nothing particuarly frightening about us at all, our defence isn't mean, our attack isn't mean and we have a soft centre

Like I say for me as I said at the outset it isn't something based on recent results. I just don't particularly enjoy possession football full stop, I like the English up & at them approach more
its a shame that it ends up subverted into Pulis vs Hughes somehow

I don't quite understand why the last few months somehow wipe out the previous two seasons? There are a lot of awkward questions for this manager and history may very well show this to be the beginning of the end, but it isn't fair to take the best displays of one version of the game and compare them against the worst of another.

The side that we pretty much agreed were three players away from improving, unfortunately we have signed a shed load of players this season and now look a shadow of that team, scary stuff from our management team bordering on incompetence.

I see what you are saying but it's just my belief that in a competitive league you need a competitive team. It was our physical aspect, team ethic, organisation at set pieces and in play (for the most part) that give us an edge under Pulis, I fail to see what our edge is now that gets the best from this group?

Football is an easy game; 1 Defend deep 2 Ignore possession 3 Concentrate on set pieces 4 And boot the ball as far down the pitch as you can at every single opportunity.
It has worked beautifully for Leicester this season.

Why have people turned this into right way or wrong way ,when both or a mixture of both can be right, a team plays in differant ways a team that can only play one way soon gets found out,and that's what as happened to us at home,we cannot cope against teams who press us high up the pitch and we then end up giving the ball away in our own half or spend most the game passing square across our 18 yard box.

My theory is half of Pulis' players were still here and being used, last summer saw the major changes take place and now Hughes has his own choice of players having had 3 years to build his own squad, where is he going with it? what are we trying to achieve? i'm of the belief Hughes has an imbalance in the squad of 'footballers' and players with that 'DNA' we used to look for in players, hence the reason I keep on about british based players and getting some steel in

So cards on the table, would you get rid? Right now I would, however it is not up to me the Coates family will be taking that decision, they sacked Pulis for failure to achieve what they expected, would they do the same to Hughes ? most business operators are ruthless people which is why they are in the position they are in, in any business you are only as good as your last result.
