Interesting - wonder what reason they will give.
He's had a terrible time against Australia. I hope he doesn't turn out to be another Ramprakash / Hick type.

Buttler's been downright inept with the bat sadly for the whole summer pretty much and it's a shame. Someone needs to tell him to just play fluently and as naturally as he can, he's got the potential to bat like Gilchrist but seems far too worried at the crease at the moment.

Can't figure out how the player that scored 129 from 77 balls against a decent NZ attack at the start if the summer has been so inept against Australia. The boy's hit class; the question is does he have the bottle. Please, please, please Jos - don't be another Hick or Ramps.

25/30 Runs short, methinks the Aussies will knock these runs off in 47/48 overs, with the loss of 6wkts. If I am right, I will be back with the Lottery numbers for Wed. draw.

I thought the same as you - once again we look a batsman light at #5. But then our killer spinners got stuck in. A pleasant surprise - and maybe a cause for optimism for the forthcoming UAE tour. Good victory for England. Win the next one and make the last ODI a decider.

And another victory.
In what was turning out to be a Groundhog Day series (side that bats first scores near enough 300 and the team batting second fails miserably in the chase) England managed to chase down 300 to win.
Some great stuff from England.
But the highlight of the game was that astonishing catch by Maxwell to dismiss Plunkett.
So onto the end of the series and tour (and this thread!) at Old Trafford tomorrow. A deciding game. Let's hope for a good one. Meaning, of course, a win for England.

Rather ironic that if Maxwell had his way & they didn't change the rules, his catch wouldn't have stood.

Could the Australia cricket team please make their way to Gate 4. Your flight is about to leave. Please remember to take all of your luggage. And don't worry about any trophies or urns. They are staying in this country.

Well - it's all done and dusted. Bit of a damb squib to end on, but the summer has been a pleasantly surprising story of success.
Not great cricket, but moments of greatness. And high entertainment. The opening morning at Trent Bridge will never be forgotten.
The concerns at the start the summer remain those at the end; an opening partner for Cook, what to do about Bell and who is our front line spinner.
The bottom line though - we won the Ashes!

Hear! The cricket wasn't really that good was it? Not too many close games, but there were positives: lots of individual great bowling displays by the seamers; Stokes staring to emerge as a top all rounder; Buttler's keeping; Root emerging as the best English batsmen for a long time; but for me, the best thing was Cooks captaincy. He has really started to lead, take chances and show that English cricket isn't 20 years behind all the other countries.
