"Under the cover of the pernicious austerity agenda our society is being disfigured. People are being punished for a crisis they did not cause. The Conservatives’ obsession with tax cuts and subsidies for the richest has been coupled with chronic underinvestment and the systematic running down of our public services and infrastructure. ...Austerity is a political choice, not an economic necessity. A fairer future is possible. We can enthuse people with a coherent, fairer vision. To do this we must embrace innovation, investing to fund decent jobs in decent public services and cutting-edge infrastructure. A national investment bank can help to create new jobs, stimulating strong and sustainable economic growth, reducing the deficit fairly." - Jeremy Corbyn www.theguardian.com/…/2015/aug/14/labour-leadership-…

Labour left winger telling us there is no need to live within our means It's a pity that Huddy only does one sentence replies because he could have explained it to us ...... It's pretty clear what he's saying and at no point does he mention borrowing more does he? I await a reasoned response from you, that would be a refreshing change, or are you sticking to insult and name calling as per?

If Corbyn wasn't electable, his opponents wouldn't need to band together to smear and denigrate him. The reality is that there is huge discontentment with the whole political and economic establishment in Britain. The general public do actually realise bankers are overpaid, landlords charge too much rent and that the utilities are run by greedy crooks. After years of rhetoric they can see through all the touchy hopey aspirational stuff. The Blairite narrative doesn't wash. They want a coherent critique and a clear set of policies to improve their living standards. Offer hope and the economic policies to deliver improved living standards and we'll win. That's the simple secret of Jeremy's success.

Just heard Corbyn had a standing ovation at Glasgow tonight and is polling high up there.
Who'd have thought that a Labour MP would experience that again. Corbyn reuniting the Union?
Certainly looking like all that unelectable nonsense was made up spin from the right. Keep repeating it over and over in the hope that it becomes true stylee.

The Guardian They would say that Jeremy Corbyn is more popular than the other Labour leadership candidates with the wider electorate and fares particularly well with Ukip supporters as well as those from his own party, a Survation poll suggests. The survey of 1,000 people found that Corbyn scored the highest when they were asked about his personal qualities and which candidate would be the best at holding the government to account as the leader of the opposition. Among Ukip voters, 39% of them liked him the most, higher than the 38% of Labour voters who said so. But just 22% of Conservatives liked Corbyn, compared with 25% who preferred Andy Burnham. Does that help you at all?

You can't blame forces outside Labour for the anti-Cornbyn narrative. That is coming from inside the Labour Party.

Funny how everything the Guardian says you expect everyone to accept it but we are meant to take everything the DM say with a pinch of salt . As a proud UKIP'er I'd say the exact opposite

Only two budget surpluses in the last thirty years implies theres an awful lot of hysteria about someone honestly proposing a bit of spending - surely better than a deficit through tax cuts?

How would he negate the deficit, if at all. To create this political utopia, he would have to spend stupid money to set it up and enforce it, meaning he would have to borrow more on top of what is already owed, thus plunging the country into further debt whilst simultaeneously inhibiting business activity, which will create a knock-on effect of job losses and further welfare dependency, meaning more borrowing to support those out of work. It is a vicious circle of spending to fuck the country up, then spending even more to sink it even further. Its all academic though, he will never get elected as his views are out of date and out of touch with 99% of the electorate. The truth is, most people don't give two fucks about social justice and a 'fairer' society, people just want to get money in their pocket, food on the table and a better standard of living, and IF the Labour party want to get back into power, they need to out-gun the tories on matters such as business, education and immigration, whilst relating to 'common' folk. Under Corbyn, they are just going to drift further to the intellectual hard-left, freezing out core voters who want action, not theoretical babbling about fairness, equality and Justice.

Read much to me like the shallow political waffle all politicians come out with. Sound bite words, blah, blah, blah... I'm becoming less and less convinced he's any different from anyone else. Was listening to a report this afternoon of a talk he gave in Edinburgh which the reporter noted was outstanding only in his failure to talk about Scotland. Is that because he's already ceded Scotland to the SNP. Not impressed.

Most of the criticism of Corbyn is from within the Party ( in the real world , outside the Oatcake).I think that many are just as concerned about their own personal positions, their roles as they are the party and the country. I am pleased that he has exposed them, and hope that he goes on to win.

It would be interesting if Jeremy wins, achieves Party unity (or survives Party opposition ) and makes it to the 2015 election. If he does , and their are no credible alternatives, I hope that he would win the election. That may be surprising coming from a UKIP member and a person labelled (on here ( as being on the right. My reasons for thus are :1 I would not want a second term of what would be a brutal right wing government, 2 He is the candidate most likely to be uncomfortable with EU membership presuming thst we are still in the experiment.3 He is a genuine man, a conviction politician and would have established his credentias to a degree if he is still the Leader of Labour by then. What would happen then is in the lap of the Gods, The well known predictions/arguments about what would happen to the economy , would then be tested. Personally , I still can see no way that this could happen , could be wrong of course. Time will tell
