He's an annoying, loathsome, angry, complete and utter cunter of a player. I think he will fit in well :-) Completely understand the logic behind this, as we have developed a seriously soft underbelly since the departure of the Delapidator. Absolutely can't stand the guy, which means when he's on the pitch everyone knows it. Not good when he plays against us, but in a Stoke top he has legend status potential. How old is he ? 26 in march Cheers pal. I thought he was older for some reason.

Wrong. Poyet brought him back into the side after the previous chump of a manager dropped him. He' rebellious. He brings his problems, BUT he will bring some passion back into the side, provide the bite missing since Whitehead left, is still relatively young, has some pace, scores more than occasionally which you will never see N'Zonzi, Whelan or Palacios do. He is not the answer to Stoke scoring problem but he will give 100% and stop some of the goal leakage. Sunderland only would sell, not to get rid but because he is one of the few players they could raise money with. (bit like Stoke!) "He's rebellious" That a good thing or a bad thing? Haven't we got a few too many rebellious players here for the time being? If we're going to get more "rebels" in then hadn't we better make sure that with that rebellion they at least bring quality. Cattermole doesn't. In my opinion. Provide bite missing since Whitehead left? I'm sorry but Dean Whitehead was so average and his best characteristic was providing "bite" was it? Bollocks, Whelan is way more feisty than Whitehead ever has been, as is Adam. I never thought i'd read, i mean i know there's some shit on here at the best of times, but you're trying to make out that we're missing something that Whitehead provided? Sorry, that's just out there on cuckoo plant weird land thing. He'll stop some of the goal leakage? You do realise the team that he's currently playing for has conceeded the exact same amount of goals in the league as us. One thing i will say about him is that he wears his shorts way too high, and that's a lost fashion statement in the modern day game. So weird reading this thread, people seemingly want to sign him cuz "he's hard" Just makes me laugh "Oh, we've signed this player, he's shit but fuck me he's an hard bastard" Living the dream! Progress.

disciplinary record a side, he's not a bad player and would do a decent job here. Hes as good as, if not better than we already have! Was knocking on the England door before Whilshire last and Barkley this season

Thank god you're giving up your argument. It was proper shit. What do you expect a tough tackling midfielder to do come back from a three game ban shit scared to put a tackle in. Bit like a player coming back from injury who bottles out of every challenge, scared of a reoccurrence. I take it your excited about this possible signing but can't say it would be may choice unless it was getting desperate or maybe it is! At least he's got a work permit and played football in the last 18 months not like our last 2 signings. I'm a miserable old bastard I rarely if ever get excited about anything. I wanted Stoke to sign a proper midfield destroyer that can shield the defence without having his hand held by another player the entire game. I believe Catermole is capable of being that man, not exclusively but a reasonable option. A bit like Palacios could/should have been but has never replicated what he previously showed consistently.

I predict that this thread would have gone exactly the same way it has. Seriously mate, you need to get Tony Pulis out of your head. I'll never have a bad word to say about the bloke, but he's not here anymore. There's no need whatsoever to bring him up in this thread.

I think he'll be a good addition better player than Whelan. If he can sort the silly stuff out he's just what we need. I'm intrigued to know how many times he's been sent off.

Right position, wrong player.
Hughes is right to be looking at a defensive midfield player, but I very much doubt cattermole is the answer

After Nzonzi's and Whelan's performance vs Miles Jedinak I wouldn't rule it out if we could or are offloading Edu or Palacios. Something in the middle needs changing. Interesting to see if a RB does come in or a CDM. Might tell us the rumour that hughes is trying to move Cameron into CM is true or not. Cattermole in with a few going out wouldn't surprise me.

If this is true Hughes really is an idiot, 5m on a defensive midfielder of which we have a bloody multitude of. Have we learnt nothing about that position 500k buys you the same as 8m see Whelan, Delap, Whitehead and Palacios. Homzy reported that we're looking at Right backs to move Geoff into midfield ontop of that!
Am I living in a parallel fucking universe? We've spent 100% of the transfer window with Wilson at centre back. I wouldn't be unhappy at seeing Wilson as a defensive midfielder, I even wonder what the one-time right footed left back could do at right back but never once did the rather ridiculous thought of 'I hope we sign a defensive midfielder to plug a non-existent gap' enter my mind.
The person who has drawn up our transfer strategy is fucking moron.

What did Jedinak do on Saturday that was so good?
I barely even noticed he was playing other than to comment about how N'zonzi had won every single challenge against him both on the deck but particularly noticeable, aerially.
Then they scored from our mistake having not caused us a single problem all game long and we turned to shit. When I say turned to shit, I simply mean that we found it impossible to break down their flat back 10. Palace didn't then cause us another problem until the 90th minute when we were playing with only Wilson at the back and throwing everything we could forward in the forlorn hope of an equaliser.
I like Jedinak as a player but he was miles better against us in both cup ties last season than he was on Saturday.
EDIT - As for Cattermole...that link is infinitely more believable than the ridiculous Holtby stories from the weekend.

The person who has drawn up our transfer strategy is fucking moron. We don't have a "bloody multitude" of defensive midfielders though, that's just simply untrue. After Whelan and N'Zonzi, we've got Palacios who's been a huge disappointment, Wilson who looks way too slow to play there and was garbage there earlier in the season and Cameron who's our starting Right Back. If signing Cattermole means giving N'Zonzi a massive kick in the scrotum and adding proper competition for the holding midfield places then I'm all for it.

A striker and centre back would be top of my list but I don't have a problem with this either, especially if we can finally fuck Palacios off this window.

However, I wouldn't say no to a Whelan upgrade, which Cattermole is (red mist aside, despite being a massive issue)
