Mail Short stepped in to ensure Cattermole stayed at SunderlandJoe Bernstein: The dramatic collapse of Lee Cattermole's £5million move from Stoke to Sunderland was due to the direct intervention of Sunderland owner Ellis Short who got cold feet about selling a key player to a prospective relegation rival.
Both managers and the player himself were happy for the move to go ahead but Short refused to sign it off, for similar reasons to Manchester United not selling Wayne Rooney to Chelsea.
If Stoke stay up, expect their interest in Cattermole to be reignited in the next window.
If stoke stay up and sunderland go down offer em a quid for him and give him 500 quid a week...Though to be fair he's as probably pissed off as much as anyone with all this fuckwittery....
