I still think he could do a job for us. I've always considered him the type of player that is detested by all but when he's yours he becomes a bit of a legend - which is how I always felt about Hendry; hated him until he pulled on the red and white stripes and then immediately thought he was fantastic........

not even in the 18 man squad for Sunderland, I wouldn't be bothered if he signed to be fair he might do us well.

I suspect LMH likes to have a tough guy in the middle of the pitch. We don't really have anyone nasty enough at the moment.

Apparently he went off injured on Saturday, so it MAY not be as straightforward as it appears? Injured? I won't believe it.

Id be very surprised if he wasn't playing for them cos we MIGHT sign him. It would have to be imminent. More than likely injured

Nothing definitive then?
George Caulkin ?@caulkinthetimes Oatway confirms Cattermole out with "a little bit of a knock … No bids whatsoever. He was left out because of an injury, that's it." #Safc
Keith Downie ?@skysports_Keith Asked Mark Hughes if he's made a bid for Lee Cattermole. He said: "Not that I'm aware of."

You can't beat a joined up recruitment team can you What a peculiar thing to say. So under the new structure, the manager hasn't the slightest clue who we are and who we aren't bidding for?

My initial reaction to this was OH DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! However, our midfield is a sieve, there's no cover for the defence and its why we cant keep clean sheets. I'll be happy with this as long as the fee is reasonable.

OK, we get it, hardly breaking (bad) news is it?
Any new, news for us of any worth?

Momo, cut him some slack. What should he say? It's just an odd thing to say, I'm not having a go. If he was being cagey he could have said, 'no comment' or 'we're working on a lot of deals at the moment' but 'not that I'm aware of' just makes everyone look a bit silly but perhaps is a genuine window into the back office clown shoes that is going on.

Maybe they haven't made an 'official' offer yet, so he knew he could make that comment. The official offer might now go in, following Brighton accepting Sunderland's bid for Bridcutt. I'm sure they know what's going on.

Signing Cattermole will improve the squad. I don't know why so many are keen for Glenn to go though. If anyone should make way it's Palacios. If Cattermole comes in and Glen leaves I don't think we will be particularly any better off. But purely as an addition or in place of Palacios, yes the squad will definitely be better off.

Yep if Cattermorle starts on Saturday with Glenn and it works, then N'Zonzi might find himself having to wait to get back in the team.

I can't help thinking that although he was born in Stockton (I'm guessing he was a Boro fan), he doesn't have a great love for the Mackems and merely followed Bruce there. He's been a captain for most of his career and it was only Di Canio who took the role from him, something Poyet continued. I think he knows his days are numbered so if he can capture his best form we'll have a player who will give his all for the cause. It wasn't too long ago that he was being talked about as Gerrard's successor in the England team.
