Just done 9.3 miles. My breathing was fine but my legs felt heavy for the last 2 miles. Has anyone got any tips to avoid this?I do have a good warm up and down. a nice recovery run would do it, always cool down and stretch off after a run. make sure when training you have a day off atleast a week. try to do 3 normal runs , a hard run and a recovery run. youll get there.

Running. Unless you've got something important to catch it's a futile exercise.

well that didn't entirely go to plan, wanted to do thirty odd k but did 23k with 3 toilet stops- :/ oh well, nothing I can do now - and might be a blessing yes mate I've got Helsinki marathon in 12 days - but I think I have undertrained and under tapered. I'll read the whole thread when I get to work Good luck with it, 23k does seem a bit low, but if you've got midweek miles in the bank a slow and steady pace should see you through. Ive got the Sandstone trail A race and Amsterdam marathon in October Thanks. I did 28 over hills last week but felt if I really pushed it yesterday, 12 days away, might do more harm than good. But theres no getting away from the fact I'm undercooked. Could be messy. I always learn lessons the hard way.

The best thing about running is the freedom and space and you don't get that in a gym True And being away from the wife and kids for a couple of hours That's why it takes me 12 hours to run 5 miles...

A 10.8km to be posted belatedly. I was a bit bad today in that I ate two bars of chocolate and didnt drink as much water as I like to, so started off by just targeting 20 minutes. But, I kept it going to 25, then 30, then once i got to 40 I managed a really good last 20 minutes

Only did 3.5 mile on Tuesday, was helping a newbie in the club on a run. Did a steady 5 miles last night, should have been in a 5 mile race on Wednesday evening but came down with bad guts in the afternoon, I think it was the pasta ready meal I got from the co-op at lunchtime

The spicy chicken pasta from Tesco is edible if heated for a little bit, but not what is really needed for a decent run out. A power energising banana at 4pm does me a treat

That could be coming from your back through the piritus, don't forget a sports massage to ease out the lactic acid build up if needed.

I normally have a banana a couple of hours before an evening run as well.

Rather than go for 2 consecutive 11k days why not alternate long run days with days when you do say 6 shorter speed intervals of 1k each but at a higher pace with 5 minutes rest or slow walking between each? I reckon that would build your speeed and recovery capabilities and you would soon see the 11k turning to 12k as a result since the pace would feel far more comfortable since you will become used to working at a higher pace in the speed intervals. It would also keep it interesting and make it fun, variety being the spice of life. That's my theory for what it's worth but what do I know?! Gods (your personal trainer)
