Had a new bike delivered yesterday and just about set off for the 8km ride to work Is your company in the governments "Cycle To Work" scheme POOB? I got my hybrid bike a couple of years ago under that scheme and basically you get the bike free of tax by making incremental monthy playments over 12 months direct from your gross pay. Pulis in.

It is yes Gods, but I handed my notice in a few days ago anyway so the 12 month option just isnt there.

I try and run about 5 miles every other day..but during the last few weeks I've been on the treadmills in the gym where there's air-con to escape the heat Not the same though..like a hamster on a wheel in a cage The best thing about running is the freedom and space and you don't get that in a gym Thank God its getting colder

Living in the smoke you have constant battles with the public and tourists. The air con at the gym sucks ass around the treadmills, but i at least like to be able to control and regulate my speed and the incline. I also use a proper treadmill, not a giant hamster wheel

I've just done 11.3 miles which is the furthest i've ever run.My legs are aching a fair bit but i felt quite good all the way around and there was a couple of reasonably steep hills. I also did 10 miles on my bike earlier.

Signed up to do the Stoke 10k run today, which is at the end of September.
Never entered one of these before. I used to be very sporty back in high school / early Uni days (I'm 24 now) but haven't done much fitness work since, til I joined a gym 2 months ago.
Anybody got any tips on how to get myself from being able to run 4k fairly comfortably to running 10k in 8 weeks?!

Anybody got any tips on how to get myself from being able to run 4k fairly comfortably to running 10k in 8 weeks?! Positive thinking, determination and plenty of water. I was similar to you a few years ago when I joined the gym, I'd do 2/3 km and that'd be all, but I'd be running at 12.5km/hour. Instead, go slower and I was then able to go straight up to 7.5km, then 8.5km, then 10km, then 11km and the most I ever managed to do was 11.8km in 1 hour. Giving yourself enough rest between is vital too. I now tend to do treadmill 1 day, rowing the next (15 intervals of 500m), then rest. Always do one round of weights before and one round after too. Well, that all works for me anyway But very best of luck anyway Oh and dont forget a good playlist of songs to get you through I always have a playlist of Come Together (Floyd), Every Word (Ercola), Love Never Dies (Moonbeam), Time (Chase and Status) and Nine Thou (dont know who by) to get me up to around 25 minutes. I know if I can get to that, then I'll get through to 1 hour. Then I'll crank the speed up with Come Together (Floyd), Terminal Velocity (Technikal), Slide Away (Styles & Breeze), Blood is Pumping (Voodoo & Serano), Heat of the Night (Starpilots...REALLY cheesy song) and then absolutely batter it for the last 6 minutes to Iron Eden (Gate).
