I'll admit I haven't read the details yet, but I've seen a couple of stories today (mainly headlines) regarding cardio endurance training may be harmful, more so for men than women. Should we be concerned? I'll ask my 81 year old mate who's doing low 27s at the Parkruns and did 62 minutes in a 10K race today in the wind and heat. He'll be moaning the conditions weren't good enough to go under 60 minutes. In all seriousness in 11 years of running I'm only aware of three people who've had heart issues and they're all racing currently at the same level as before.

Really enjoyed the Stone 10K this morning despite the warm and blustery conditions. Nice chat with Yes on his watching brief still recovering from smashing his marathon pb. Really sweet to see him there with little Yes reminded me of the days when my lad was manageable

You never know, you may be racing against Little Yes when you hit V80 like your club mate 😉

Should we be concerned? neurosciencenews.com/vascular-age-endurance-exercise-20776/Is this the article? I think there is potential to expose a heart condition that was already there. I wouldn't worry too much unless more solid evidence comes out, they admit that for men, their vascular system acts 10 years older(hardened aorta), but don't know what the impact actually is on healthy men. Keeping fit will gain you years in the first place too.

She asked me what I was doing to keep fit, did the measurement, smiled and said we'll never need to see you again

Weekend away in...Tenby. Parkrun in Milford Haven which was top 12 finish out of 36! 25.11 for a cheeky testing route Long Course Weekend Half marathon on what is described as one of the toughest half marathons in the country. Pembroke to Tenby in 2:10 along beautifully hilly coast via Manobier. Great to chat to someone before start who was obviously a Stokie....and was leading Stoke AC lady who won Stafford half. Noticed quite a few Stoke Tri Athletes there too

Some right athletes on here, I'm enjoying my trots out locally here, Knypersley, Biddulph Moor, Chatterley Whitfield. Seem to be getting fitter and faster, although I think I'm probably at my limit now. Nothing better on a nice day with good views though to be fair

Whatever your weekend plans....stay hydrated & sun safe people. Its going to be a scorcher Fortunately the forecast is only 18 degrees for Y3P (it was 21 degrees earlier in the week). Should be cloudy too, so hopefully not exposed to the sun all day. Still taking plenty of water though, and sunglasses, cap, suncream etc.

Finished it in 10hrs and 15mins.
Struggled towards the end. That last peak was brutal. So steep.
Dropped a bollock and ran out of water at the last peak too (thinking the end was not far away). Turns out it was a good 6 miles or so in baking heat. Was absolutely broken by the end.
Just got home and showered and about to collapse in bed. Long day, but great experience.
I'm going to be very sore tomorrow.

Did you get any snappin’ off the van by the viaduct? Great job!

Did the ASICS 10 in London this morning. Typical London race in that the start is carnage. Came in at 38.20, but slightly frustrating as I did 10k in 37.19 which is a PB, but was already 200m over the distance in the first 2km due to passing people and having to take longer lines. Enjoyable though and I love racing in the heat.

Did you get any snappin’ off the van by the viaduct? Great job! We got to the food van by the viaduct and we were all ready for a bacon butty. We could smell the goodness as we approached and the mouth was watering. Turned out it was cash only and we all had cards, phones etc so we struck out!! Absolutely gutted. There was an ice cream van next to it that accepted card so we settled for ice creams/lollies and topping up on bottles of water. I enjoyed Pen y Ghent but I assume that was because it was the first peak and we were all fresh. The 12 mile walk from Pen y Ghent to Whernside was also enjoyable. Met loads of people en route who were more than happy to chat and share stories of why they were doing it. The atmosphere was brilliant. I enjoyed the ascent of Whernisde too and I felt like I was well on my way when I was stood at the top. Little did I know the descent was probably worse than the ascent!! So steep and brutal on the feet, ankles and knees. That was horrible and after that I was struggling. We came across a cafe in a barn before the final peak. We all grabbed a quick bite to eat and restocked on water etc and I felt good to go again. As we started climbing up Ingleborough I starred to decline pretty rapidly. We were a group of 4 and 1 had already dropped out after the 2nd peak so only 3 of us remained. I quickly found myself at the back of the 3 as I started to deteriorate. I managed to keep going until I reached the base of "those steps". I honestly felt like packing it in. I seriously didn't feel like I could drag my body up that unbelievably steep incline! But then I remembered all the money I'd raised and why I was doing it, so decided to dig deep and crack on. I must have stopped half a dozen times during that section as my heart was racing and beating out of my chest. But then when I stopped I felt dizzy as I suffer from a bit of vertigo so it made be carry on and get to the top as quick as I could!! Once we'd reached the final peak we were all pretty euphoric that we'd completed it and high fives were aplenty. None of us had realised we had a good 5 mile walk to the finish though, and we all finished our water as we started the descent. The final 4 miles or so were absolutely brutal in blistering heat with no water. In hindsight it wasn't very wise as dehydration could have struck any one of us. I felt like I could collapse once we'd finished but I managed to get a pint of water down me pretty quick and slowly I started to feel back in the land of the living. In terms of aftermath, despite stopping numerous times to cream up, I've still got sunburn on the back of my legs and neck (legionnaires hat definitely required in those conditions). Couple of blisters on the feet. And a bit sore around the "undercarriage" due to sweating in that heat. Nothing that won't heal in a couple of days though. Unbelievable experience and so happy I dug deep to get it done. Won't be rushing to do it again mind!!

I have a friend who has signed up to the Gritstone Trail.
35 miles I think and the aim is to do it in 12 hours.
Anybody done it before? What level of fitness is required?

Anyone ran at Cheadle/Tean today? A 4-miler up Freehay I think. Yes it was hot. I ran sensibly after a tough trail race on Thursday evening. The Cheadle 4 is unrelenting. The first one mile plus is flat and flat out then the next mile and a half is an uphill slog to get to the top of Freehay then it's another flat out downhill to the finish.

That looks steeper than I remember! Brutal! I don't think the picture does it justice!! It was extremely steep!! I think if I ever did the challenge again I'd probably start with that one, to get it out of the way whilst fresh. Before we did it I'd read that Pen y Ghent was the hardest, but barring a little bit of minor scrambling near the top, I don't think it was anywhere near as difficult as Ingleborough. Whernside was probably the easiest of the 3 however it definitely had the most difficult descent. Very tough on the joints. On reflection there are tough sections throughout!! The 12 mile walk from Pen y Ghent to Whernside is probably the easiest and most relaxed part of it all.
