I've ran a few 7 and 8k's so far this month and am going through a love/hate relationship with running - sometimes love, sometimes I want to get it over with even when taking it easier. I don't know if I've reached my peak with 5k times, but after 5 PB runs in a row, I've ran at 4:12 pace for my 3 5k's since (just under 21 minutes). The first of those felt surprisingly easy, but the other two were tough. My PBs do tend to be a surprise when they come.
I've signed up in anticipation of Parkrun's return next weekend, which will be my first time running against others. I'm actually a bit nervous and hope the start opens up so I don't get tripped up or trip anyone up!

You’ll hit a bit of a wall in terms of progression as you’ve been really hitting it hard & putting in some great times. Longer distances, slightly slower and shorter distances, slightly quicker will dovetail to give you a quicker 5k. I know it’s sacrilege to say it, but I’m not a fan of Parkrun for anything other than stretching the legs out. I think I’ve done one or maybe two at a full gas effort, but I don’t see the point as it is never a goal for a training block. I do like that it gets people running though. Potential for tripping, being pushed is certainly high at times.

Some aren't opening yet, like my normal one at Delamere Forest, so others nearby will be even busier with their 400 or so runners, plus every one eager to get back.

I tend to struggle in heat - generally, never mind when exercising - but ran 5 miles on Monday and 4 miles on Tuesday at what felt a comfortable pace (not feeling out of breath) and really enjoyed it, especially the parts under tree shade. Despite being soaked through with sweat, it was much more fun than sitting in a hot house or garden!
Today (the hottest so far at 1pm) I ran 5k in 21:11, which was faster than I intended. One more run this week before I decide whether to do the parkrun or wait until the COVID situation has calmed down again. Looking at the top times from my last local race, I'd be starting in the top 30-40 runners if most people lineup based on times, so hopefully avoiding the bigger crowds.

Which parkrun are you thinking? The start line can get pretty bunched up at Wammy if that's where you're thinking. Probably best to get there early. The rain should clear the humidity so better conditions for you!

I haven't posted on this thread for a while. Been doing a number of early morning runs due to the heat and probably averaging about 20 miles per week. I'm not really doing enough shorter runs though. It's always anything between 8 miles and a half. Did manage a 1.55 PB for the half last week mind. I'm off to this Thunderun at Catton Hall this weekend. I'm a late replacement. Sounds like a 10K course and the teams just run in a relay type situation taking it in turns to run the 10K course. Could be good fun. Anyone here been or heard of it?

Great event, you'll love it. Quite a technical course, lots of trails and hills, probably lots of mud too looking at the forecast.

Epic fail on my planned session today, 3 x 2 miles @ 6.30 pace of .25 mile jog. Died a death half way through.
Haven’t managed much speed work the last 3 weeks and the planned 1.27 at the Antrim half marathon is now looking too much of a stretch

I hope it'll be different with COVID protocols in place, and they'll discourage people from bunching up too early, though I'm erring on the side of not being too fussed anyway given it's outdoors. I managed 4 in total with 2 being below an hour and 2 being above. I also found the eating at sleeping aspect tricky. Brilliant organisation though and loads of friendly people. Quite a few from Stoke too. The lad from Trentham who won it was just incredible. 120 miles in 24 hours! Must have only had 2 hours off!! Total machine. How about you? Enjoy it?

Enjoy it? 4 laps is brilliant, I did the same. I've done 20 laps in total in the previous 3 events, so you'd think I'd be fully prepared, it's almost like you forget how tough it is! First lap I went off the first mile too quick, so made an effort to keep the first mile much slower and it worked, was consistent for all 4 laps. Yes that Trentham guy was unreal! So we're the youngsters from Newcastle that won mixed 8.

Went for a 5 mile bimble around Delamere forest last night, stopped to take some pics of new the Beaver enclosure and what may be a lodge, finished just as a monsoon arrived, but got drenched running from the car to the pub for pie and chips after, about 12 of us sometimes it's not about pace and distance, just enjoying the place you are in and the company you are with

Partially tore my right hamstring and left calf three weeks ago and so the lack of training meant the ASICS 10k last Sunday was absolute shite. I was running with a chopped stride and minimal lift. 2 minutes outside the time I was aiming for, so all in all, a waste of time. Logically I shouldn’t have done it, but I had a hotel booked and I did want to see how my legs would hold up. The answer was not very well. Lesson learned. Well, probably not, but I’m pretending that it’s taught me something. Physio was fun a couple of days after though 🤢

I've apparently been misdiagnosed and may have had a meniscus tear in both knees as a result of that dog knocking me over in February. After seeming to gradually improve to an extent since I started running again in April, the pain has got much worse and more regular in the past week (at a time I was mostly running leisurely), and I wonder if it was from squatting last week from a bit of gardening and squatting down to stroke a dog! Squatting hadn't previously been a problem for me. Maybe the movements at the physio appointment this week made it more painful too. So I really don't know if that's it for me and running. I didn't sleep the night I got the news and the constant setbacks with injuries that don't come from actually running (but stop me from doing it) have been demoralising on occasions when running has been pretty much my only solace this year. I tried a 5k today and managed 21:24, so despite it exhausting me, quite a bit slower than I was the past few weeks. If it is to be the end for me and running, I would like one last hurrah with a first parkrun either tomorrow (if my knees feel up to it in the morning) or the week after, when my running fitness may have taken more of a nosedive and I have another physio appointment the day before. I also got a big bloody scratch on my arm today thanks to the selfish parking of the same dog walkers whose dog knocked me over. I was about to complete 100km in a month before the dog incident in February, and I'm only 200m off running 100km in a month for the first time, so if I don't do the parkrun, I will be sure to at least run 200m tomorrow. As well as stopping running, I've been advised to avoid cycling unless it's low resistance and long walks too (for maybe up to 6-8 weeks recovery, making my Scotland hiking trip in September seem unlikely). So maybe I'll look for an exercise bike that's portable enough to use outdoors (I stopped my indoor exercises once lockdown hit).
