A frustrating week+ for me with only 2 runs. I hurt my 'good' leg and running makes it hurt more, though it feels better than it did after my run today than it did a few days ago, where I still managed to improve my 5k time by 7 seconds. I'm hoping I'll be back to running normally within a week. When I can't go out so often, I keep wanting to beat my PBs, whereas when I can run regularly I've noticed I enjoy it more because I fit more relaxed runs in.

Steady 16.5 miles on road for me, with just a little detour around Marbury park, very still, misty and atmospheric, with just a few bird noises, and a couple of cormorants diving under the water, before the dog walkers showed up with those fookin yappity yap fookin fur babies and scared them off, wankers.

Now getting threats from imbeciles on Faceshite Me and the Mrs were attacked by an Alsatian when walking in Marbury park a couple of weeks ago, few days after me an a guy running across the foot bridge between town and the path along the river to the boatlift had a jack russell coming for our ankles, had 2 go for me in Stevenage a few weeks ago. People shouldn't be allowed to have a dog until they have been trained IMO, once theyve been trained then the dogs get trained. Even last week, early Sunday morning, I was running past daresbury Ice Cream farm and a guy walking 3 dogs, on leads, but they were all straining at the leash barking and snarling towards me, the cnut didn't do anything to refrain them and teach them that's not right.

A day cooped up in the office staring at the freakin' computer lead me to actually want to go for a run earlier. I decided to forget the time and just go and see what happened. Really enjoyed it and ended doing 8.2 miles - Probs could've done another 4 miles (another lap) but didn't want Mrs Orbs worrying where I was... Average time per mile was 9.23 which I was pretty chuffed with. About half way round I can honestly say I was enjoying it. Felt really effortless (fuck off) and I wasn't out of breath at all - could have easily chatted with another runner. It's one of the very few times that I've felt like that. I did look at the miles splits and they were very different: Mile 1: 8.07 Mile 4: 10.00 Mile 5: 9.12 Mile 7: 9.42 Elevation 300ft I think I'll stick with the slower, steadier and longer approach in the future...

64 cold hilly fantantastic miles in the Lake District.
I’ve been driving to Yorkshire, the lakes, Peak District and Pennines when I can last few months to ride different roads and big fucking hills.
This country is truly beautiful in places and it’s free.

I'm done for at least a week or two I think. I ran a steady 2 miles on Tuesday and my bad good (left) leg felt okay, though I thought I should rest it for a couple of days (I didn't originally hurt it by running). Only I get fed up of staying in and not exercising, especially under the current circumstances with working from home, so yesterday I went for another steady run. My left calf started feeling tight at around 2-3k, but I carried on to 6k and now it ain't feeling great at all. I enjoyed the run though. Hopefully I've learnt my lesson, and I'm pretty new to running I suppose. I don't really know what kind of injuries are okay to run on, so maybe I should've googled it first. A physio and doctor said it's fine to exercise my right ankle as long as I keep the pain below certain levels. I may try a steady cycle tomorrow or Saturday and see how that feels. It's cycling that usually knackers my bad (right) ankle, so I can't win really.

If its a sharp pain it's probably a small tear, if its a dull pain its more than likely a strain, with the weather if you've not warmed up properly all your muscles will be tight. Best to ice the area 10mins a time, take off for 20mins and repeat 3 times or so if its more of a strain from my own experience.

Not posted on here for a while, but I've still been ticking over.
This is my first full calendar year running. Set myself a target at the start of the year to run 1,000km, and I achieved that about a week ago, so I'm happy with that.
I'm hoping to get a few races in next year, when things return to normal (or a bit more normal at least!).
I trained up for the Stafford Half at the start of this year but dropped out due to covid. I'll hopefully get my first proper half in next year, and a few 10k races too.
I'll set myself a new target too. Maybe 1500km for the year.

It's ace Aye - I love walking but usually in new places, and that was mostly curtailed by COVID and my bad ankle this year. I did manage 2.5 weeks away in October with lots of walking, the longest Lands End to St Ives. I usually take a short walk most lunches if I'm not running, but my calf doesn't feel up to much walking either.

Cheers - I hadn't though about how the weather would affect my muscles. To be awkward, it feels a bit of both but more dull. My warm up consists of 5-10 minutes walking (including a short jog or two) and a couple of quick stretches, with the same for warm down. I did the ice and raise thing when I got home and it seemed to help a bit.
