Been really enjoying a couple of 6-8 milers a week just lately - especially in the milder weather. If any of you have a Decathlon sports shop near you then they have some cracking running gear. Loads of different long sleeved tops of different thicknesses. I picked up a couple, plus a rather splendid gilet for a few quid. Well worth a visit.

Always worth a visit when I'm near one. I'm just muddling through. Got back to consistent speed and tempo sessions, just need to work on my overall endurance again in the new year ready for Edinburgh Marathon(hopefully)

It's waterproof and very thin. Helped me to an 8 mile run today - estimated average of 9.03mins/mile

Decathlon are poor in my experience. I've made 4 or 5 orders online and pretty much every time there's been a problem with items I've ordered being out of stock. So they cancel those items rather than sending them at a later date, and usually they're the items I wanted most. Apart from that time when instead of cancelling the items that weren't in stock, they didn't send my items for weeks and I had the most bizarre exchange ever - like it was from a dystopian future. It reminded me of a Doctor Who episode and Philip K. Dick short story. Here's one of their replies:
"After checking your order on our system and the communications we have sent you, I can see that we made all our best efforts on our side to speed up the delivery process. However, even if we removed the item which was delaying the entire order, we were still not able to guarantee that this would have been possible.
As previously explained, it is the system which controls the estimated shipping and delivery dates and not the actual people working in the warehouse. Of course, this is not the service that we want to offer to our customers and if it would have depended from us as humans, we would have been more than happy to dispatch your order sooner than expected.
We have different statuses of the "preparation stage" in our warehouse and even if we removed items out of stock or items which are delaying the full order, we are unable to guarantee that the warehouse will be able to process it before the estimated time.
Therefore, I really hope you can understand that at this point, there is nothing more we can physically do on our hand but we will take your feedback in consideration to improve our service in the future."
"if it would have depended from us as humans" - the warehouse is in control at Decathlon. Bizarre!
In the most recent order I made (8-10 items), about half were cancelled and a shirt arrived with a slight tear - it seemed in the post against a cardboard label.
In running news, after being sent to hospital for a suspected blood clot in my leg (which it never was) from a doctor's phone appointment, I had a physiotherapy appointment over the phone, which was much more useful than I expected. I should be okay to run again but only steadily, and I have to do lots of exercises at home.

Gilet proving to be worth its weight in gold

Went out for a 10 miler before sunset, managed to find the nativity, and spotted a couple of buzzards close up, a sparrowhawk and a falcon swooping down from High. Earned that Guinness and chocolate cake my son made today

The physiotherapist I spoke to this week recommended I wear long socks in winter to keep my calves warm. The only socks long enough I could find were compression socks, so I tried them for the first time today. My feet were a bit tingly at first, but I was surprised how much better they made me feel while running. I ran 2 miles at a steady pace, but it felt as hard as when I was previously running regularly at a faster pace. Hopefully I can keep my fitness up enough to continue breaking my PBs when my calf is better! I was behind another runner for a few hundred metres today, and I wondered if it was felonious. Merry Christmas everyone. I think I'll be out for another short run on Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas everyone. I think I'll be out for another short run on Boxing Day. Unless you were ploughing through the mud at Hanchurch sneaking into the middle of a Covid approved coach led session it wasn't me ps: Don't obsess with breaking PBs every time you set out it'll lead to injuries and a dull running life

Lovely short run around Keele Campus, the track and the woods this morning so slow that someone was hanging on to the back of the group a few hundred yards back I was wondering whether it was Vadiation_Ribe?

8 miles on the lanes yesterday about 450 feet of elevation in 59 minutes, lovely conditions I think it's going to be a bit wetter out there underfoot today.

Not much at all, but once I’ve finished my ‘mass gainer’ shakes (currently gained 3st in just over a year!) but will be going for a run every morning to aid the ‘cut’ can I use strava without a watch and just my phone? I’ll be doing about a mile each morning and just want to track times really! Plus a good way to get blood pumping early in the morning and get me set for the day

There's an oatcake running club on Strava too so you might want to join that. 12 miles today - 4 with Mrs Orbs on her C25K programme (It's excellent if you want to try it SD22) and then 8 on my own - 1hr 14 Mass gainer shakes sound interesting...

Ah wonderful! Thank you! I may give it a try, mainly would like to do 2 miles max but quick ones, with some 5ks chucked in once every 3 weeks or so. Used to have an engine in my playing days (speaking like I’m 42 when I’m 24!) Mass gainer shake, 500Kcal per shake, twice a day on training days, once a day on non training days, train 3 x a week, aiming for anywhere between 3000-6000 kcals a day, my golden day was a ‘dirty day’ where I hit 6457 calories!!! September 2019 weight was 10st 12lbs aiming for 14 Peak weight before lock down 2.0 was 14st 4lbs aiming for 15 by Jan Currently at 13st 12lbs and optimistic for a nice 14st 7lbs by feb, although I think that this will be a stretch! Hoping to cut down to 12st 7lbs and see what I do from there! Crazy to think when I was training MMA and was looking to fight(never did in the end) to stop me fighting 6ft 2 behemoths my coach was looking for me to fight at 135-155lbs!!! Now I’m currently at my heaviest I’ve ever been at 194! I will definitely join the group once strava is downloaded and cutting season is a go, hopefully you and Mrs Orb won’t shame my mile times too much!!

No running over Christmas at all. I’m trying to complete 10,000 bike miles for the year (130 to go). However I read an article on a guy who ran at least a mile a day for a year.
Far too optimistic for me as it would interfere with the biking but I’m going to give it a go for January.

Run at least a mile a day for 31 days is easy enough physically but more the challenge to ensure I do it. Covid aside I’ve got some pretty big cycling challenges in the summer I need to train for
