Supporting Stoke for nigh on 30 years now and the only thing that never changed was Mabel and her scarf.

What a sad turn of events RIP Mabel - you will truly be missed by so many. I only knew Mabel from going on Coach 1 to quite a few away games over the past 5 years - she was a remarkable lady, a true inspiration as to how to act and conduct yourself and an incredible lady considering her age. She had a 'way' about her, a friendly face and approachable nature - i imagine she touched many people`s hearts throughout the years with her kindness and gentle manner. Sadly missed from this Stokie`s eyes and yes a Legend of our supporters. Sleep Well.

Just heard this news from the official site whilst at work. I'm so saddened by this news. Been a Stokie since '92 and always see her at all away games with her scarf on. RIP Mabel - Stoke City F.C will not be the same without you. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this difficult time

Sad news indeed.
I have a few memories of Mabel the first of which is similar to so many. As a youngster, she (along with Margaret) assured my mum that I would be OK travelling to away games on the coach and went out of her way to make sure my mum let me go. The first game on my own was Liverpool away in the League Cup (2-2 with last minute equaliser) and I went for years on the coach after that.
My second memory, although before the one above, was Wigan away when stood on the grass bank in a 4-0 defeat, Mabel led the chants after those on the grass bank had shouted "seat boys, give us a song". :-)
My final memory is more recent, away in Tel Aviv and hearing the story that Malcolm Clarke posted about. Outside one of the Irish bars pre-match, I took the opportunity to buy her a drink.
As many of said, we are all merely supporters of our wonderful club but somehow Mabel was special and had legendary status in her own right.
I wonder who will get to inherit that scarf?
RIP Mabel and best wishes to all of her family who, despite being devastated, can be so very proud of her.
xx

My heartfelt and sincere condolences to all Mabel's family and close friends. We've lost a true gem, and the old saying that you don't make 'em like the old 'uns any more is apt in this instance. She's irreplaceable. RIP me old duck. OS doffs flat cap as a mark of proper respect. OS.

Goodbye Mabel, near neighbour, co-chatter to three generations of my family, (some competition there!) badge lady, lollipop lady and all-round good egg.
Especially grateful for your cheerful optimism and shared enthusiasm, regardless, especially after a dire match and most recently before that crucial nerve-jangling QPR game. You'll be remembered and talked about, often, Duck.
Condolences to all the family. May your grief be countered by the fact that you did her proud and not only in the last few weeks.

RIP Mabel - what a gem she was
I saw the commotion at Southampton but was too far away to make out what was going on
In fact whilst watching people gathering round Mabel I missed TP waving goodbye
We will all be missed but Mabel more than most - she was a fixture at away games
Nice (and significant) that Peter Coates has recognised Mabel's wonderful contribution to the club

Sad news indeed. Mabel always said a cheery "hello" to me whenever we met, inevitably outside a football ground somewhere.
Sincere condolences to all her family, she was a "grand old lady" and will be sorely missed.
