He wasn't particularly on my wanted list but I'm 100% behind him unless he does a wank job. Don't like the bloke but as long as the football improves and results are good he will have my support. As thousands of fans are,I'm just looking forward to seeing some proper football down Stoke again after two seasons of the most horrible, negative, boring excuse for football I've ever seen. I couldn't havd put it better myself. Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using proboards

On paper Hughes looks like an improvement. He needs to prove that is the case on the pitch and around the club at Stoke. He merits our backing to help achieve the improvement he was brought in to deliver.
Hughes v Pulis
Notable clubs as a player
Hughes Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea Pulis Bristol Rovers, Bournemouth, Gillingham
Managerial jobs
Hughes Blackburn, Manchester City, Fulham, QPR Pulis Bournemouth, Gillingham, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Stoke (twice)
Premier League games as manager
Hughes 270 Pulis 190
Wins
Hughes 97 Pulis 56
Win percentage
Hughes 36% Pulis 29%

There is so much arguing on this forum and so many stubborn bastards. Regardless of who is appointed we all need to get behind the manager whoever it is, whether you think the appointment is good or not, once they give you a reason for you not to support them then i might take seriously anyone who them out. As far as i am concerned we cannot judge performance from earlier clubs because look at Hughes for instance he has performed well at some and awful at others. We need to give him a chance, give anyone a chance and THEN we can start driving a truck from the 80's about with a sign on it and whinge about how shit our manager is

Anyone can forgive and forget, but I'm a great believer in holding a grudge I welcome Mark Hughes on board and I believe given the club we are, the league we play in and the squad we have has as good a chance as anyone of making this thing work. But I can't forget the fact that sacking TP was an act of such jaw-dropping stupidity and gracelessness there was almost an operatic grandeur to it

In answer to the original question, I'll get behind the team and I'll reserve judgement for whoever the manager is.
My dislike of Hughes may cause me to be naturally more critical of him though. He needs to win me over with some square pegs in square holes, tactical nouse and some acute signings. Oh and maybe he should stop the slappy handshake crap and unjust criticism of other teams too. Not too much to ask is it?

Yes. Every step of the way. Anyone shouting MH out at the first match needs shouting down. I will be booing as soon as he is introduced to the crowd. And I'm sure you'll be planted straight in your ugly mush.

I'll be right behind Stoke City's new manager as I am behind any new Stoke manager. I have always supported them and very rarely called for their head. I once made an error of judgement aand supported a Stoke manager far too long.... but we won't go into that.

I'm with durbancircus here, I've been following Stoke for a very, very long time, seen some awful managerial appointments, but none have ever given me the same feeling in the pit of my stomach as this one.
Let's not pretend that there wouldn't be 90% of us laughing our tits off if a rival had appointed Hughes - you only have to look at social networks and search for Mark Hughes to see that's happening to us right now.
The feeling will subside I'm sure and I'll be ready and full of anticipation for the season. I'll get behind our man. It'll take a while though...

I'm happy to admit I was a dreamer. I thought the board were going to go all out for Rafa, He'd have the big bollocks to take on an unfashionable club & be the man to take us to a realm I could only dream of. His family would be sitting in the West Stand & be newly converted 'Stokies'.
Unfortunately, as a dreamer, you're often disappointed.
The team and the the way they entertain me is all I care about & more football savvy men than me have chosen to appoint Hughes. It had to have been a nightmare decision for them & it's there cash & reputation at risk.
I fucking hated Coates for what he did to us in the past but now believe he has the city's best interest at heart & on that basis I'll support his decision to the hilt!!
Hughes has come across as having a shit attitude as a manager & I hope that he's just had a big slice of humble pie with his time at QPR. He was a beast of a player & learned from some of the best managers out there. If he brings half of what he was taught he'll be the right appointment to take us forward.
Am I ecstatic with the appointment? - big fat no
Will I get behind him if he's leading our lads on to the pitch in Dallas? - abso' fucking' lutely.
PS. Yet another Welsh twat & I have no love for the bastards. The last one really surprised me, I pray this one will do the same.

To be fair to Stafford (and I don't like saying this), he changed his tune after the appointment was official. Fuck, I think I'm going to puke.

Act in haste, repent at leisure. A disastrous week in the history of the football club, one which we will surely look back on this time next year as we face the Championship in 2014/15.

I am now looking forward optimistically to next season. Mark Hughes, and his experienced backroom staff, have a lot of doubters to prove wrong. I am sure that we supporters will benefit, and see some entertaining football for the first time in eighteen months.
