Hughes then set about creating a formidable side at Ewood Park. He entered the transfer market, bringing in players such as Benni McCarthy (£2 million), David Bentley (£500,000), Ryan Nelsen (free), Stephen Warnock (£1.5 million), Roque Santa Cruz (£3.5 million), and Christopher Samba (£400,000). Rovers finished 10th in the Premier League in 2006–07, and reached the UEFA Cup round of 32, where they were knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen 3–2 on aggregate Ignore his QRP stint and give the guy a chance. The problem is if the QPR disaster was a couple of seasons ago it would not be mentioned that much but it was only last season thats the issue. If the Blackburn stint was 20 games ago and QPR 6-7 years ago then he would be judged different. I say get behind him but in life you are only as good as your last job thats the concern of some supporters.

having thought about it some more im quite pleased now
i did not think a fashionable foreigner like RDM, martinez or poyet was the right fit for the club, rafa was never gonna come so hughes is the best available, just as happy he didnt appoint MON or some other dinosaur
decent track record, hughes will continue the evolution
welcome Mark

At the end of the day, whatever anyone thinks of the appointment, it's Stoke we support - the team and the manager. I've watched and listened to those Chelsea dickheads all season giving it to Rafa. He was great for them, did a good job and didn't deserve any of that nonsense. Let's not emulate those idiots because it's the team that suffers in the end. Let's look forward to next season and roar them on. If you're not happy, there's always Vale Park. Cheers for what it's worth Marrer

Sorry i think the bloke is shite. I will never support him , Dont want him much as i never wanted Pulis..but i will support my team. If he is appointed my faith in the Board to actually bring the club on will go right out the window... it will prove a pointless exercise in sacking Pulis.

I am deeply sceptical of Hughes and his journeyman track-record in the top flight & disappointed we seem unable to engage a suitibly unifying manager. If it's the best we can do then so be it but it smacks of us having to accept a default choice (which may or may not be true). This "getting behind him" stuff is tiresome and difficult for those who dislike him on a personal level for various reasons, not least observing him on the touchline and comments made in interviews following games we have had with his teams of the years. As ever, love Stoke and will always crave the win and go mental at a goal but FMH will have to earn his respect by way of his achievements and I will be the first to give him credit where it's due should that transpire...... On the other hand.... Is there a human being alive (or dead for that matter)who could unify us lot, let alone a football manager who is available to us at the moment? He's probably the best of an average lot. I think he is a person who is difficult to like (but that was when he was in the away dugout) but to be honest we've got no choice in the matter. So hang on tight, it'll be interesting.

I will NEVER warm to him personally.
I will NEVER sing his name.
I will ALWAYS back my team though and I will ALWAYS trust that St. Peter will make the decisions he thinks are in the best interests of the club.

Ukcstokie....we have had some terrible managers your right, I think in total 17 since 1989....an average tenure of 18 months.....the point is that for half my life I accepted second and third rate while I watched my team and accepted that the messiah takes many forms....in the second half of my life I believed there would be just one God...but I didn't think he would look like Mark Hughes!....does that make it clearer?

Once our first home game starts and we see the formations & players bought that will be a hugh indication if we're all on the same track.

At worst we have the lesser of two evils at best a big improvement. Time will tell.

I wonder how long it will take before the TP out brigade become the Mark Hughes Out brigade… Give the bloke change… Some Stokies are so quick to out and do the blame game, now that you've got what you wanted you have to live with the consequences of your wishes.

You will wake from the nightmare mate.....probably away at Barnsley I wasn't mad about it mate but that's a bit extreme. We've got some decent players, ship a few out, get some more in. There's going to be no mass blowing of cash because it's not available. He won't have the opportunity to be gung ho. Hughes won't have the kind of financial freedom he's had elsewhere and i think it's proven he's best at dealing with decent bargain buys, he's got to work within the frame. I think he'll do alright, it might take a bit of time however, with the players we have got it wouldn't be fucking mental to expect them to pull some results from the off. I don't get the doom and gloom. Pulis was a top manager and a fucking legend, i'll respect him forever but hughes can do well at stoke.

Your hypocrisy amazes me. You seem to think I care? Times change and so do opinions. Whether or not you care is irrelevant. Opinions change yes but someone who changes their opinions so suddenly and dramatically to suit their own agenda... well that suggests they are a bit simple. Good job Coates doesn't listen to the fans.

Foxysgloves...that made me laugh out loud, I thought you were describing our new manager.
Roots it was tongue in cheek, but reflects a real underlying concern that the squad looks inadequate for a new season, and the choice of manager has compounded my worries.....I will always support the team come rain snow and Blythe Spartans....but it's going to be hard to support Mark Hughes

I won't be singing his name or even cheering when he is introduced. However, I certainly won't be shouting 'Hughes out' or trying to whip up a frenzy of negativity. Just do what we always do... turn up, be loud, be proud and be Stoke.

don't rate him as a manager, hate him as a person, however he is now Stoke manager and I wish him all the success, just a quick thought though, what sort of honeymoon period do you think he will get, because I for one will be pretty unhappy if we are playing fantastic football but in the bottom 3 in December.
I hope I am wrong and he does what he did at Blackburn - up the potters!!

I hope I am wrong and he does what he did at Blackburn - up the potters!! Scary thing is ... even though he did really well at Blackburn in the end he actually started off badly. I think they were bottom of the table early on? Similar story at Fulham... I think there were in the bottom three around November/December time but came good towards the end. Unfortunately he will have to hit the ground running in this job.
