Nzonzi has been a revelation compared to the rest of our midfield, and for me is one of the players on the books who I think can adapt to any manager's style.
Not that impressed by Martinez, but really none of us know if he will or won't do a bad job with a bigger budget. I would say that the probability of us going down under Martinez is probably a good 5-10% higher than under Hughes, even if Hughes is a pretty unattractive prospect.

When allowed to? Hes been countless positions this season where he could have taken on the shot, taken on the forward pass, taken on a player. Its to easy to blame his problems on Pulis. Hes cost us quite a few goals this season notably the Everton (think it was Everton away live on Sky?) where he has either got his positioning horribly wrong or has simply given the ball away in dangerous areas. He looks composed on the ball? What kind of a myth is that Rob. By composed presumably you mean passing the ball sidewards or backwards 2 yards? I'd rather see a player like Adam who may give the ball away in dangerous areas and may dour at tackling, but makes up for this by bringing much needed positivity to our game and producing match winning moments. Nzonzi neither convinces me defensively or in an attacking regard. I don't know what your view is of a good defensive midfielder but imo Nzonzi doesn't tick too many of the boxes. Add to that hes a walking red card. What a muddled post. So you don't think our midfielders were under instructions from Pulis then? I've seen Nzonzi go past players in a fair few games and be prepared to test the keeper as well. He's a decent premier league midfielder. Defensive midfielders are part of the game Nick. Makelele wasn't an assist machine. Neither was Dunga. Neither was Deschamps. Mine is muddled? You're the one claiming that a good central midfielder is someone who offers next to nothing going forward while also being suspect defensively. You've seen Nzonzi test the keeper in a fair few games? Bollocks. You've seen him do it at West Ham away when he hit the bar...that's probably about it isn't it? He rarely takes players on either so I don't know where you've got that from. You seem to be living in the past...specifically the 1998 world cup going by your last post. Central midfielders these days are expected, as part of their game, to offer attacking qualities in the same way that centre halves are now expected to play the ball out from the back not hoof it 60 yards at every opportunity.

Martinez told Whelan he did not feel equipped to get Wigan back up. Still want him here?

Are they bollocks. There's plenty of unshowy defensive midfielders out there - Mulumbu and Yacob have been a big part of WBA's success, ditto the Korean lad at Swansea. De Jong made a big contribution to Citeh. Sandro at Spurs is an arse kicker, first and foremost, while that's been Lucas' main job at Liverpool. Nzonzi was one of the few players prepared to shoot against teams like Chelsea and West Brom at home and at Sunderland away. The Chelsea, Sunderland and Fulham games also saw him get forward and go past players, and he had two great chances and got into good positions in the win over Norwich.

I think its clutching at straws a bit to be fair to suggest Nzonzi has shown the ability or a willingness to show any substantial degree of attacking intent. Ultimately i'd be pretty surprised to see him here come next season tbf.

Busquets, Mascherano, Martinez etc. None of them are what you'd call creative...

I think Nzonzi would thrive under a Martinez regime...... Personally I don't think Nzonzi would play under Martinez. I'd imagine he'd want to bring the likes of Macarthur, McCarthy and Watson to the club. Which i'd be more than happy with.

Moyes has set the bar very high there.Over-achievement getting them competing with the big boys for the Champions League spots, on twice their budget. Huge shoes to fill. Less expectation and more time here. Goo Aaarn, Roberto. I know Martinez is not a big man but I am sure Kenwright will pass the drinks down to him ![(puke)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/W4TTwnSMAihS_78R4Kzt.gif)

If Martinez could sort out their midfield and forwards then why not their defence? You can't blame everything on Wigan's budget. Martinez is entirely to blame for their relegation

Meanwhile for all the brilliant attackers Martinez pulled together, and his fantastic free-flowing tactics, they mustered a grand tally of 47 goals all season. Four more than Reading.

Thought id share this with you. I have just spent the last 2 weeks on holiday, seeing my stoke top on my lounger a Wigan lad came and informed me that Pulis had been relived of his duties then pissed him self laughing as he explained the Hughes rumour. After spending a hour checking this board and the various names being chucked about I told him quite a few stokies were masturbating at the thought of Martinez again to him laughing his socks off. Having a nightly long drunken football conversation he told me Martinez was far from fans favourite at wigan and lots of their fans had little faith that they would get back into the prem with him as manager. His inability to manager the bigger names in the teams and play his favourites out of position (sound familiar?) and total lack of defensive know how Even though they had chances to sign better defenders all had their gripe with large sections singing you don’t know what your doing at many games last season. The guy I was talking to had a season ticket since year dot and as with the others in his group couldn’t justify the media love in with Martinez, His attacking gung-ho style has leaked that many goals that this is what frustrated the Wigan fans year after year seeing what was plainly obvious seasons ago eventually sent them down seems hard to take as you could imagine.
I asked him seriously who he would like as boss to take them back up to the premier league. One guess who he said....

How has he looked suspect defensively? When allowed to he's shown he can be positive but he's a defensive midfielder and so 'positivity' isn't his job. He wasted little, won the ball and did the simple stuff very well, looking composed on the ball. Add to that hes a walking red card. Some complete bollox posted there Rossi, countless positions he could have taken a shot. So you think our lack of shots (particularly from outside the box) regardless of the player has been a coincidence. Well it hasn't thats players playing to order. Composed on the ball myth, its not a myth N'Zonzi is very composed on the ball. He's a player comfortable with the ball at his feet, who is not easily dispossesed A'la Jermaine Pennant they just look comfortable having the ball until they've made their mind up what they're going to do with it, once they've decided what they want to do they execute it and are successfull in doing so far more often than our other players who shit themselves when the ball is at their feet and just get rid ASAP usually to our opponents. However you're right Adam is more creative and positive but does give the ball away in daft areas far too often and can't tackle and is a quite niggly snidey tw4t on the pitch. When it comes to being a complete midfielder both have areas to improve upon but there's no contest Adam is generally a liability who makes things happen occasionally. N'Zonzi is an acomplished midfielder who needs to expand his game, play with more freedom and get a grip of his sullen attitude.
