Something big Bob is yet to deliver, of course... True, Rob. But he has been operating on a budget of £37m. I'm not saying he's a panacea - but the trip would be fun He's constantly finding these top players we're told though Grapey, yet was always in a relegation battle. Swansea and West Brom have to live within their means but made a much better fist of it.

Come on Rob think of the excitement!!! Come on Bobby!!!!!!!! nothing more exciting than a relegation battle each year An extra £16m in the wage budget would surely make a difference though. What's that...eight £40,000-a-week players in the squad on top of his Wigan allowance? As would the presence of Huth and Shawcross in the backline?

Didn't we recently employ 2 scouts from Wigan.

The suggestion Hughes is being used as a smoke-screen does not seem right to me. He seems the sort of manager Coates would admire, and I don't think they would mess him around. If Hughes wants it, I think it's his.

He's nearly got Wigan relegated four years in a row and finally succeeds this year and people want to hire him!?
Madness.
He's like Mowbray was at the Baggies - got all the public and press drooling over their silky playing skills but it's bullshit. Passing the ball twenty times in your own half, losing it the second you venture into the opponents half and having a weaker defence than Stuart Hall does not make him a good manager.
If Everton go for him its the classic error of picking someone who looks and talks like a good manager but whose results don't stand up to scrutiny. If they had any brains they'd go for Steve Clarke at WBA - what a job he's done.

What really worries me is that he can only motive his players from March onwards, when they look certain to be relegated, then they start to play and look a decent side. The rest of the year (except when they play us) they are awful. I can't see how any amount of money will change that.

Agreed FM. Can you imagine the buz around the place? We'd could be seeing the likes of Maloney, Adam, Mcmnamon and Kone as an attacking force! Orgasmic!

If Martinez went to Stoke, is it all possible Vitor Pereira would be in Coates' crosshairs?

On SSN- running through their recent escapes and the 29% win statistics.
However a comment from one of the pundits on the relationship between Martinez and Whelan "If you've got the dressing room, the support of your chairman then it makes sense to stick with him"
There's an assumption that he's off to Everton and once his situation is finalised ,then we take a look at who else is available - probably pointing to Hughes

We can blow Everton out the fucking water financially, far less expectation here and add to that the fantastic new facilities (which Martinez will be well aware of as Whelan used it recently as a template for Wigan). He'll be worshipped here.

Sky Sports News understand that Everton are expected to seek talks with Martinez after making an approach to Wigan on Friday #ssn
His car hasn't left the car park yet and Everton are after him. That's how you're supposed to do it!

There's an attractive group of candidates and an unattractive group. I'd say Hughes is the best candidate of the latter. And I think he'd be right up Coates' street in terms of CV and personality.

Sir Stan came to me in a dream last night. "Owrate, youth" he said, "Owrate, Sir Stan" I said. "I've come to tell you two things" he went on. "Firstly, anyone over 18 years old who gets excited about and wears replica tops is a knob head, secondly, the news about the new manager is Bo..." and with that he went. What was he trying to tell me? It's all a load of bollocks...or Steve Bould?
