If we were in for Martinez though, you would like to think that even before he inevitably signs with Everton that he would at least hear us out.
Any other person would if they were talking to Stoke and had other offers on the table.
"Hang on I just want to see what other interested party say before I agree to join you" which ironically, usually means they dont.

The Hughes debacle at QPR shows there are no such things as sure things or safe bets with managerial appointments.
If we're going to change, let's have a throw of the dice.

Everton are a bigger club than Stoke at the moment, there's no point in fooling ourselves. Martinez is likely to go there, I certainly hope so. So how the hell do we hope to get "bigger"??? Everton have a strong history cup & league wise, but finacially, ground wise and in terms of recent success they are no bigger than us - marginally higher attendances perhaps ???? Everton is the "size" of club we can easily become given the right ambition and corresponding adverturous appointments........we have to shake off the little old Stoke small-club mentality and this will not be achieved with someone like Hughes IMHO of course...

Geoff we get the picture...you want Stoke City to be as boring as possible. i'd rather go down geoff's route for the one simple reason that Martinez would be the only manager daft enough to try to bring someone like Tuncay back and i couldn't deal with the mess you'd leave all over your seat at the ground if that happened rossi ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif)

Aren't Baines and fellaini leaving Everton? Where does that leave them? It makes them a very average side for sure.

NO! regardless of their financial problems they're still far too good and big to go down and always manage to pull players like Arteta from somewhere. Bains and Fellaini would give them around £30-40 million to invest in players as well. not a hope in hell of them going down

scfc, I enjoyed watching Wales, Blackburn and Fulham, can't say the same about Wigan. You dont half talk some shit mate Did you see the Cup Final ? Give the guy (Martinez) some credit in that he does produce some exciting football albeit taking a few too many risks How can you say watching Blackburn was 'enjoyable' under Hughes ? It was perfunctory at best.

I'd have to say it (a Tuncay return) would almost certainly result in multiple orgasms on a monumental scale. I'd be making regular visits to the sperm bank. In all seriousness though Mick, you know as well as I do, Martinez is exactly what this club needs right now. Fresh ideas and positivity. And the potential of Tuncay making a shock return to the Brit ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Couldn't you argue that Hughes is a throw of the dice? A bloke who seems on the scrap heap but has shown flashes of brilliance in the past? Sounds like a bit of a gamble to me. Also reminds me of a gamble we took on a player of that mould and look how that panned out........

but would give them an extra £40 million to get players in with Not with Evertons debt it wouldn't. true but they wouldn't actually have to pay much of it to debtors. their repayments are ridiculously low and they never get collared by them when on the rare occasion they actually do get a good lump sum come in. they'd have a fair whack of that to use

Some Everton fans are not happy with the idea of Martinez taking over . If I was Martinez I would steer clear of Everton . If they don`t head towards top 6 they will have him out. As someone said if Fellani and Baines end up at the shit they are deffo not a top 6 club.

Seemingly he has been granted permission to speak with Everton so chances are he is going to end up there.
Everton are a big club and standing toe to toe with them, even with greater resources, better facilities and arguably a better stadium, they would still have a bigger pull than us due to their history and overall status in the British game.
Maybe if we get the opportunity to speak with Martinez, we could convince him to come here instead but that is unlikely I would have thought and I suspect that, were we to want Martinez, Martinez would have held discreet talks with both Stoke and Everton over the weekend and prior to making his announcement that he would like to leave Wigan.
Martinez seems unlikely to do a Hughes and leave Wigan without a job straight into.
I wouldn't be disappointed with Martinez or Hughes to be honest and if pushed, would actually prefer Hughes at this stage, strange as I know that may seem.

Huge pressure on him if he goes to Everton.
I wouldn't back him to succeed in the short-term.
Following Moyes, 8th or 9th would be a hanging offence there.
