Hate to say it but met the entire Manure squad at a UNICEF dinner at Old Tattered, free ticket and took important perole to my business. All a bunch of tosser, far to big headed. Secruity around them all night like somebody was going to attack then. Black tie dinner FFS! Highlught mind you was meeting and chatting to Sir Bobby Charlton, charming man and had a great conversation.

good to see my "close encounters of the footballer kind has got a follow-up thread! I literally rubbed shoulders with Wayne Biggins in the old players lounge at the Vic. As a lot of you know our Wayne isn't always the friendliest and most down to earth of footballers (unlike Peter Fox who got me the passes to the players lounge.) Reminds me of a couple of stories. Bertie was sat behind me in the away end earlier this season for Vale v Sheff Wed. Top chappy who I think was pretty surprised that anyone noticed him. Also, went down to Exeter a few years ago when Foxy was in charge. Went to the ground on the off chance he was around and when he realised we were Stokies he gave us a behind the scenes tour! Lovely chap. He is now at Blackpool, so he might take Prudhoe's place in the Premier League ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif)

Well I used to go out with and went to school with Ashley Woolliscroft who played for Stoke for a bit, now plays for stafford Rangers. And I used to work behind the bar at stoke, and when we played Chelsea about 8 or 9 years ago, Dennis Wise was playing for them, he came across to me and started talking to me before the match before any fans were there, he seemed a nice bloke. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

When I was about 10 Terry Conroy came round to our house for the afternoon to visit my Dad. He came out and played football in the garden with me and my brother for about an hour. When you're ten it doesn't get any better than that - actually now that I'm 48 it wouldn't get much better either.
I also knew Petur Marteinsson when he played for us. Intelligent guy and really pleasant company. He lived next-door-but-one to my parents. They were beginning to get on a bit and Petur and his wife looked out for them. I can't really speak highly enough of him. Generally he kept himself to himself - he was very badly treated by the club but very dignified in his eventual departure. He got me a few tickets to games and when he left he gave me his player car park pass.

I worked with Noel Blake for a brief period-he looks well 'ard but he seemed a really nice bloke whenever I spoke with him. Many years ago I used to go on the piss with a mate of Dean Crowe's and regularly bumped into him when out on the town. Can't remember what he was like though, as i was always completely fucking wasted whenever I spoke to him. The late Dennis Herod was a friend of my Grandfather's and although I only met him a couple of times he seemed like a really nice bloke. It was a shame the club didn't do something to honour him when he passed away as he was the last surviving member of the 46/47 team that finished 4th in the top-flight. Think that's about it...not very exciting I'm afraid. I'd love to say I'd snorted coke with Diego Maradona, discussed art with Cantona or gone on a piss-up with Gazza, but sadly I'd be telling fibs. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif)

Blagged my way into the players Xmas do in the 80's at the Friendly Hotel on the A34 just outside Castle. Danced with gerry Daly's mrs ( he wasnt too happy either ;D) and had a piss next to Tony Ford. He was not just knighted for services to football either if you know what I mean ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)
