Quite a few in my time, first one Jimmy Robertson from Stoke presented me a trophy as winning captain of the St.George & St Giles football team,in 1975.
Next one is where my life was turned upside down, May 6th 1978 I was knocked over by a car on the A34, by Newcastle Colledge. Spent two weeks in a coma, next couple of weeks still a blur, but I know some of the Stoke team of then came to see me.
I've still got it now, on Stoke edited paper all the signatures of the squad 77/78.
Played golf with John Ritchie, what a gentleman.
In Cyprus Everton squad, Sheff. Wed. squad, Notts Forest squad and loner Sol Cambell.
Best laugh though Duncan Ferguson, he's nuts.
Ian Moores was already playing Cyprus when I came here, a year after I came here David Cross who played for West Ham started to play here. They would come in to my snooker club and pub which I had opened in Limassol

good to see my "close encounters of the footballer kind has got a follow-up thread! I literally rubbed shoulders with Wayne Biggins in the old players lounge at the Vic. As a lot of you know our Wayne isn't always the friendliest and most down to earth of footballers (unlike Peter Fox who got me the passes to the players lounge.)

I've met plenty of so called stars, sports, movies etc and to be honest, if you don't put them on a pedestal they seem to act quite normal.
My funniest one was when I was going out with a girl in Oxford , and we were invited to a party. I started talking to this fellow about sport. He was Welsh, I was a rugby league player, so I assumed he'd know a bit about rugby union, so I rabbited on about that.
Talking with him for ages. He mentioned he played football, I said for anyone local? He said 'yes'. That was about it. Thought he might have played for the local sunday league or something.
He was Dean Saunders. He was apparently a big gun at Oxford. Saw him a few weeks later on the back of the paper, where he'd signed for Derby ( I think) for a million odd quid. Then he went to Liverpool.
Top bloke.
Met Paul Gascoigne and his big fat mate in a London bar, and he was a fucking idiot. Nuff said.

I used to work with Noel Blake's missus, so I spent many a work do propping up the bar with him - you know what work do's are like, especially if you're the "other half" - he was always very pleased to have a Stokie to chat to. And of course I met Stanley Matthews, but I guess everyone in Stoke's done that. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Cleaner came in, she asks Rob if she could 'carry on' he said yes. Hoover goes on cleaner says, "Lift your legs up Stan." Stan turns to me and says, "It's just like being at home." "Me and Stanley Matthews sat there with our legs in the air. SURREAL MOMENT!!!!

I've actually had the privilege of meeting quite a few. I used to play for my college's football team and every now and again we got invited onto FA Coaching Courses where people on the course would be assessed whilst they coached the college team. Most of the coaches were from academies but every now and again there would be a few ex-professionals or current players on there.
I'm not trying to boast (too much ;D ) here but here's a list of those I can remember ...
Dwight Yorke (Who arrived in his white Lamborghini) Andy Cole Paulo Wanchope Dietmar Hamann Ole Gunnar Solskjær (Who has some awful scars on his knees from his operations and decided to play as a goalkeeper) Garry Neville Shefki Kuqi (Who missed an open goal from a yard out) Kevin Davis and Ryan Giggs
All of the above were pretty sound and took the time to talk to us all and sign autographs and things. Although Gary Neville was a moody sod ;D
